Job Description
Guildhall School of Music & Drama is seeking applications for an exceptional academic leader with a distinguished record of institutional leadership to become our new Head of Learning & Teaching. This is a newly established role that will make a major contribution to the School’s Strategic Plan 2030 and beyond. The role holder will provide strategic leadership ensuring continual enhancement towards a ‘one school’ learning and teaching culture. The role holder will be responsible for stewarding the evolution of the School’s education and training toward common frameworks and systems that recognise and embrace the uniqueness of our disciplines. The School is an internationally acclaimed, contemporary conservatoire providing world-leading education, training, and research in the performing arts. Our mission to inspire the extraordinary is underpinned by a learning and teaching culture founded on exceptional education and training. The Head of Learning & Teaching will play a significant role in leading and overseeing workstreams, systems, and operations relating to learning and teaching, academic quality and standards, and the student experience. We are looking for an ambitious academic leader with a record of successfully achieving strategic innovation and enhancement in demonstrably world-leading learning, teaching, and education. The Head of Learning & Teaching will contribute significantly to the achievement of the School’s strategic ambitions. This will include refreshing and extending the School’s disciplinary scope and range; remodelling and rebuilding our current lifelong learning portfolio; embedding equity, diversity, and inclusion in the heart of our curricula; developing interdisciplinary provision; strengthening intersections between learning and teaching, research and knowledge exchange; and further enhancing staff support and professional development. The successful candidate will have significant experience of education management within Higher Education settings, and experience of working in a performing arts context. You will have the ability to make a leading contribution to the School’s profile and public-facing activities (e.g. through research, sector engagement, external networks); and demonstrate excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, and a commitment to equity and inclusion.
