Hours: 2 to 4 hours a week during term-time (flexible and additional hours available for supporting other classes and developing class resources and content) Location: Onsite at Camberwell Library, Southwark, London SE5 Salary: up to £25 per hour, depending on experience, with reasonable travelling time and costs covered (PAYE or Freelance) Length: Flexible but at least 6 to 12 months About Ignite Hubs Ignite Hubs is an education charity for children and young people aged 7 to 18 years old. Our mission is to ignite the potential of young minds by widening their horizons and providing them with the skills, connections and experiences to access career-related learning opportunities and prepare them for the future workforce. We currently teach coding and STEM. We aim to provide the best learning environment for children and young people from all backgrounds and abilities. We place a special emphasis on engaging underrepresented groups, including girls, children with special educational needs, and those from disadvantaged backgrounds. By doing so, we actively work towards narrowing the representation gap in the technology and STEM sectors. We teach nearly 200 students each week and have positively impacted more than 1,000 children and young people since we started. Our educational offerings include five weekly virtual classes and four weekly in-person classes during term time at various libraries throughout Southwark, SE London. Our long-term ambition is to offer nationwide classes, workshops and events to children and young people on a wide variety of subjects under our five educational Hubs: Code, STEM, Innovation & Enterprise, Creativity and Health & Wellbeing. Role & Responsibilities We are seeking a friendly and enthusiastic Robotics Code Instructor to join our instructor team at Camberwell Library, SE5. We are looking to deliver interactive and engaging sessions to children and young people to teach them about coding and robotics. In each class, there are tables for different topics, e.g. Scratch, Python, HTML/CSS, Micro:bit, Robotics, Lego for Education etc. so students can work on projects that they are interested in. The class at Camberwell Library starts at 6:15pm to 7:15pm on Thursdays during term-time only. Our terms are 8 weeks and there is a break in the middle of at least two weeks, longer for Easter and the Summer holidays. You are required to be there around 10-15mins beforehand to help with set-up and stay on 15 to 20 mins after to help with pack-up and a quick debrief. There may also be additional hours available to contribute to the curriculum development and content creation for the Online Learning Platform, which we are currently designing and building. Responsibilities Conduct engaging and educational robotics and coding sessions at the libraries. Contribute to the development of the curriculum, including the sourcing of materials and equipment. Prepare the classroom and equipment before the class and manage the pack-up and debriefing session afterwards. Possibility to work additional hours by supporting other classes, creating resources, projects and content for our Online Learning Platform. Other Information: We will carry out an Enhanced DBS check and ask for two references. You will be reimbursed for reasonable travelling costs, and you will be paid £12 for travelling time of up to an hour each way. What we are looking for Experience with robotics and at least one of the coding languages that we teach is essential. Have time to attend meetings outside of the regular class time. Experience working with children and/or young people in a formal or informal community setting (desirable). Self-motivated, organised and proactive. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
