Job Description

Summer Day Camp Counselor Overview Day Camp Counselors play a vital role in shaping the camp experience for children. They are responsible for planning, leading, and implementing engaging activities, ensuring camper safety and well-being, and fostering positive social and emotional development. Counselors serve as role models and mentors, creating a fun and supportive environment where campers can learn, grow, and make lasting memories. Responsibilities Plan and Lead Activities Develop and deliver age-appropriate activities aligned with camp themes and objectives. Lead engaging and interactive sessions, fostering participation and enthusiasm. Adapt activities to accommodate individual needs and interests. Assist with specialized program areas as assigned (e.g., waterfront, arts & crafts). Ensure Camper Safety and Well-being Provide constant supervision and maintain a safe and secure environment. Administer first aid and assist with minor injuries and illnesses. Implement emergency procedures and respond to situations requiring immediate action. Promote healthy hygiene practices and address any health concerns. Foster Positive Camper Development Build positive relationships with campers and create a sense of belonging. Encourage teamwork, cooperation, and respect for others. Help campers develop social skills, problem-solving abilities, and self-confidence. Provide individual guidance and support when needed. Maintain Camp Standards and Practices Uphold all camp rules and regulations, ensuring a safe and positive environment. Contribute to a clean and well-maintained camp facility. Report any safety hazards or maintenance needs promptly. Collaborate with other staff members to ensure smooth operation of camp programs. Communicate Effectively Provide regular updates and feedback to parents/guardians. Communicate effectively with fellow staff members and program specialists. Represent the camp positively when interacting with the community. Additional Responsibilities Assist with transportation of campers to and from camp or during field trips. Contribute to written evaluations and reports as requested. Maintain accurate records of camper attendance and participation. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum 18 years old or high school graduate. Certified in First Aid/CPR. Ability to pass a pre-employment health screening. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational and time management skills. Enthusiasm for working with children and a passion for creating fun and engaging experiences. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Commitment to safety and the well-being of children. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Understanding of child development principles. Ability to plan and implement creative and engaging activities. Strong leadership and communication skills. Effective conflict resolution and problem-solving skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Flexibility and adaptability to changing situations. Commitment to professional development and continuous learning. Physical Requirements Ability to participate actively in various camp activities. Ability to lift and carry equipment. Clear vision and hearing for safety purposes. Ability to kneel, bend, and stand for extended periods. Compensation This seasonal position runs from June 2 – August 16 (approximately ten weeks). Compensation is $350 – $400 per week DOE. Room and board are included in this position. Must be able to pass a background check and be up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations.
