Job Description

External Communications Manager - Smiths Detection - London (Hybrid) As the External Communications Manager, you will be the architect of our “Communicating for Impact” strategy, shaping the narrative that defines Smiths Detection to the world. In this pivotal role, you’ll collaborate closely with senior leaders, marketing teams, and external partners to amplify our voice and establish our presence as a global leader in screening solutions. You’ll lead the creation and execution of impactful communication campaigns that resonate with diverse audiences, ensuring our messages drive engagement, build trust, and highlight our impact. Leveraging your expertise in storytelling and content creation, you’ll produce compelling assets, including video content and thought-provoking articles, to elevate our brand identity. Key responsibilities: Craft and implement a comprehensive external communication strategy aligned with Smiths Detection’s global objectives. Deliver compelling campaigns aligned to the four pillars of our ‘Communicate for Impact’ strategy - impact on society, digital transformation, sustainability, and people. Produce engaging content, including press releases, blogs, thought leadership articles, videos, animations, and social media posts Collaborate with the global marketing team to ensure cohesive messaging, impactful storytelling, and consistent branding across all platforms. Elevate the profile of senior leaders as industry experts through strategic content and speaking opportunities. Leverage high-profile events to maximise brand visibility and communication impact. Monitor industry trends and emerging opportunities to position Smiths Detection as a trusted authority in the screening solution sector. Provide regular updates to senior leadership on communication performance and outcomes. Grow the Smiths Detection brand by building trust and recognition, maintaining consistent messaging across digital platforms, websites, and media. Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The successful candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills, and will demonstrate the following key attributes - Significant experience in a similar position essential Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or related field of study or equivalent relevant experience preferred Creative, with a good eye for design Strong knowledge of SEO, Google Analytics, Google Ads, and other paid media platforms. Proficiency with content management systems (CMS) Excellent communication and project management skills. Ability to interpret data and provide actionable insights.
