Deputy Head of Department | Trade & Loan Services

Responsibilities Assist HOD in overseeing and supervising Trade & Loan Services Department in accordance to the branch's guidelines so as to achieve the objectives as set by the Branch Area of responsibilities include all aspects of operations of the department in Trade Finance, Remittances, Loan, as well as Correspondent Banking Work with the HOD in setting strategic directions for the department, especially in the area of compliance, risk, and operations Assist HOD in the implementation of policies and periodic review of departmental policies and guidelines Assist HOD in reviewing and refining work procedures to achieve maximum efficiency and effectiveness in the operations so as to provide the best banking services to customers Assist HOD in enhancing and increasing productivity of the department through automation and streamlining of workflows & processes Assist HOD to study and recommend new trade & loan related products and services, and to work with business units on the delivery of feasible products to customers Responsible for ensuring full compliance of all regulations / guidelines / rules / codes / standards under the department Responsible for ensuring full understanding and adherence to the Enterprise Risk Management Framework of the Bank Review and implement best practices of maintaining / reducing the expenses of the department so as to contribute towards the maintaining / reduction of the overall cost of the Branch Assist HOD in reviewing the department’s organisational structure as well as staff duties periodically Assist HOD in identifying and grooming talented staff to managerial position and/or for succession planning purposes To motivate and develop high perform teams within the department To review staff performance periodically and arrange for internal cross training to improve the work performances / morale / motivations of staff To keep abreast of new developments in the area of trade finance / loan, like technology/fintech issues, to obtain latest updates on new laws and statutes, and assess their possible impact on Operations To maintain close contact with our agent banks who offer us the clearing services, as well as our Forfaiting agent banks etc Assist HOD in overseeing and supervising the Business Continuity Planning as well as the respective Business Recovery Officer and the Deputy Business recovery Officer for the Department Requirements University or Post University graduate Strong knowledge of trade finance (especially in the area of structured trade finance in commodity trade), loan operations, and Correspondent Banking At least 10 years of relevant experience in middle / back-office operations, with at least 8 years working experience in Commodity Trade Financing banks Knowledge on International Trade and relevant UCP/ISBP/URC/URR rules and incoterms 2020 as well as MAS Regulations / Notices etc Strong LC documents checking skills (preferably with CDCS), especially commodity trade LC documents. Familiarity with LC for the commodities trade (energy, hard and soft commodities) would be advantageous Good interpersonal skills for dealing with customers and staff and colleagues Strong customer service skill Strong Trade & Loan product knowledge with the ability to mitigate risks, evaluate options and provide solutions Able to deal with and resolve cross departmental matters and able to work effectively under pressure as an individual as well as in a team
