Job Description

The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst has been at the heart of leadership training for over two centuries, shaping generations of leaders who have served with distinction in the Armed Forces, public and private sectors. To secure our future, we are creating an endowment fund to invest in the facilities and training at Sandhurst. To drive this mission forward, we are seeking a highly capable Development Director to establish the Sandhurst Charitable Trust and deliver its fundraising strategy. You will work closely with the leadership of the Academy and the Army, leveraging key international partners to build meaningful relationships and secure vital contributions. This is an exciting opportunity to raise money, deliver a strategy, and help secure the future of one of Britain’s greatest establishments. Overview of the Development Director Role Key Responsibilities: Finalise the strategy for the charitable fund and agree on success metrics for the first 24 months. Develop the necessary compliance and reporting processes and establish governance interfaces. Drive major gift fundraising from alumni, “Friends of Sandhurst,” and legacy donors. Develop and maintain key relationships with senior national and international donors and stakeholders. Build a charitable fund team capable of growing the fund over the next five years. The Ideal Candidate: Seven or more years of progressive responsibility and experience as a professional development professional or similar experience in a nonprofit, membership/volunteer-driven, or related environment. Expert knowledge of the principles and practices of major gift fundraising in an institution of equivalent complexity to RMAS. International experience, knowledge of diverse cultures, and intercultural communication skills, especially in relation to the Middle East. Demonstrated ability to conceptualise and implement a comprehensive development program of comparable size and complexity. Exceptional interpersonal skills to interact effectively with government leaders, RMAS and Sandhurst Trust employees, staff, donors, and volunteers. Strong strategic thinking skills aligned with the ability to implement and follow through. Steadfast commitment to work of impeccable integrity with strong analytical and organisational skills.
