Sessional Psychiatrist

Key Responsibilities: Conduct admissions, history taking, mental status and physical examinations. Develop and implement evidence-based, patient-centred care plans. Perform routine six-month psychiatric evaluations and compile clinical reports. Manage pre-discharge assessments and ensure treatment continuity. Support rehabilitation efforts and assess psychiatric and medical emergencies. Educate and counsel patients families and maintain thorough clinical records. Participate in ward administration, referral writing, and discharge planning. Contribute to staff training, clinical mentorship, and departmental efficiency. Support quality improvement, cost containment, and ethical patient care. Ensure accurate patient data entry and participate in research initiatives. Remain compliant with all relevant healthcare legislation and standards. Attend multidisciplinary meetings and liaise with external healthcare structures. Assist with duty roster planning to maintain hospital coverage. Minimum Requirements: MBChB or equivalent MMed in Psychiatry Grade 12 Certificate Registered with HPCSA (with professional insurance) Minimum of 3 years post-internship experience Experience in mental health rehabilitation and psychiatric care Valid South African drivers license
