Job Description

We are looking to recruit a full time Pathway Physical Performance Coach to oversee physical performance for the England pathway (specifically MU15-17 age groups). We're looking for someone with exceptional coaching skills, who has extensive experience within the Academy environment, working with adolescent athletes and has expertise within a specific domain of physical performance. They must have coached in a full-time team professional sport environment and have led a physical performance programme.

Our vision is to Develop, Empower and Connect with players so that they are physically capable to meet the demands required to win major tournaments.

This is achieved through collaboration with the MDT and clubs to deliver the PPMN strategy.

We are a group of Physical Performance Coaches, Doctors, Physiotherapists, Nutritionists, and Soft tissue therapists. We positively impact the behaviours of England Players through delivery of inter-disciplinary strategies that are bespoke to international football. We collaborate with the MDT and positively interact with clubs in service of the outcome -WINNING ENGLAND TEAMS.

What You'll Do?

The successful candidate will work closely with the Lead PPC to deliver the physical performance strategy for the England development pathway and develop a YDP specific strategy.

The successful candidate will also have a delivery role to one of these teams and support delivery to other youth national teams as required (max of 80-100 days on camp). Being a critical member of a multidisciplinary support team will require you to work closely with coaches, physiotherapists, team doctor's and team operations managers both on and off camp to deliver exceptional physical performance support.

When not delivering to a team you will be based at St Georges Park (SGP). You will be expected to attend a minimum of 3 days a week at SGP, with 2 days a week working from home, or on the road visiting clubs.

DELIVERY:

  • Inspire & influence players through outstanding physical performance coaching to one of the teams in the YDP. This includes team and individual pitch-based warm-ups, S&C, individual rehab/conditioning, and recovery sessions.
  • Contribute to the team's performance plan through collaborating with and complimenting all functions within performance services, to ensure an integrated team with clarity of the plan and shared understanding of solutions.
  • Delivery & development of the FA PPMN curriculum, which includes
    • Insights (player wellness / health and wellbeing / physical insights)
    • Solutions (periodisation / training solutions / The other 22 hours)
    • Camp Preparation (club comms / annual planning / camp review)
  • Closely liaise with the MDT and the coaching staff of that team to ensure optimal management of player's health and fitness throughout the camp.
  • Support the performance medicine team in their delivery of the PPMN curriculum when required
  • Attend all training sessions and matches, along with regular PPMN, coaching and multidisciplinary meetings throughout any camp.
  • Foster close working relationships based on collaboration and sharing data with peers in professional clubs to enable the best management of players into and out of international camps.

LEADERSHIP:

  • Create, lead, and maintain the operational delivery for physical performance across the YDP (15-17) which encompasses best practice in all aspects of planning, preparation, recovery, travel, and load management for international football via the PPMN Curriculum
  • Work closely with the Lead PPC to deliver the strategic objectives for the Pathway
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with the full time and consultant PPMN staff to ensure aligned delivery of physical performance across the Men's Pathway.
  • Embed a process of plan-do-review to drive learning and development through the team.
  • Help support the annual, camp planning heat mapping process which quality assures curriculum delivery and measures impact.

DEVELOPMENT:

  • Help further develop physical insights to contribute to the identification and development of talent and support the player's physical development and their robustness throughout their international careers.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of projects aimed at supporting winning England Teams. There is a clear focus on gaining performance insights on players from the data and observations we collect as well as how to affect player behaviour and contribute to player development off camp.
  • Contribute to Senior Men's Euro and World Cup tournament projects
  • Delivery of FA PPMN CPD/training days throughout the year
  • Executes additional tasks as required in order to meet FA Group changing priorities.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing can be maintained.

What You'll Need?

Essential for the role:

  • Excellent coaching skills and extensive experience as a team PPC in elite sport
  • Extensive experience within Professional Football Academy setting
  • Track record of successfully integrating into established and developing medical and performance teams
  • Strategic & operational leadership within a physical performance department (accountable for the PPC provision within a department, or team)
  • An understanding of the physical performance needs of high-performance athletes / players.
  • Relevant physical performance accreditation (BASES/NSCA/UKSCA/ASCA)
  • Under-graduate qualifications in sports performance related field

Beneficial to have:

  • Post-graduate qualifications in sports performance related field
  • Expertise within a specific domain of physical performance
  • Experience travelling abroad with teams
  • Experience in International or Club Football
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams
