About the Opportunity

AXIOM is one of the DSA alliance partners and is an unincorporated Joint Venture (JV) made up of three major engineering contracting companies each with complementary capabilities and skills. The members have excellent nuclear pedigrees, demonstrated expertise and effective track records across the UK nuclear fleet and related nuclear industries.

AXIOM provides process, mechanical, civil structural and architectural, electrical, instrumentation, control and safety capabilities to support Sellafield Ltd.

As well as having a large, dedicated team working for Sellafield Ltd, each has immense reach-back capability into parent organisations for knowledge, expertise and innovations gained from within, and external to, the nuclear industry. Examples of other markets include Oil and Gas, Environment, Mining and Aerospace.

The extensive capacity and capabilities of the AXIOM alliance provide the essential expertise that is crucial to achieving both the designs of the alliance and the wider goals of Sellafield Ltd and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA).

We are now looking to recruit a Lead Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design through all project phases.

As a Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will already have;
  • Experience of working within a highly regulated industry, preferably within the nuclear industry.
  • Carrying out mechanical engineering calculations and checking calculations where required and check the mechanical deliverables ensuring the team deliver quality outputs to schedule.
  • Responsibility for the timely delivery of design packages, which will include close liaison with the Area Engineering Manager/Technical Manager, other engineering disciplines, the role will have the following expectations.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Packages, good understanding of 2D and 3D Autodesk CAD Products.
  • Supporting the Project Engineering Manager in providing engineering design support to work scope definition throughout procurement, construction and commissioning project phases.

Here's what you'll need:
  • Degree Qualification or equivalent qualification in a relevant technical or business discipline
  • Detail design knowledge of mechanical mechanisms or bespoke equipment.
  • Demonstrated record of maintaining own skills and knowledge at the forefront of the field Knowledge of delivering against legislative, regulatory and company policy standards and procedures e.g. safety, quality, risk, security
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant drawing standards
