The High Throughput Characterisation (HTC) team in Large Molecule Discovery is a high performing team of biophysical scientists working to support programmes throughout the antibody discovery process through characterising protein-protein interactions using state-of-the-art SPR technologies and other label-free binding technologies, as well as assessing properties of antibodies using a range of techniques including SEC, HIC and DSF. We are looking for a self-motivated and enthusiastic lab based scientist to join our team.

The ideal candidate will enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary team to identify the therapeutic antibodies of the future. They will have experience of biophysical techniques to assess binding and biophysical properties of proteins, as well as independently designing and setting up experiments and problem solving. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential. Experience in analysing and interpreting large sets of data and working with antibodies and multispecific antibodies would be beneficial. This role is ideally suited to a recent PhD graduate or scientist with lab experience looking to take the next steps in their career.

Key responsibilities

  • Planning and carrying out experiments to generate key decision-making data for therapeutic antibody discovery campaigns using SPR, BLI, DSF and HPLC-based methods

  • Analysis and interpretation of the data generated

  • Representing and interpreting your data for drug discovery matrix teams

  • Contribution to programme team discussions to support programme progression

  • Accurately recording experiments and writing scientific reports

Basic qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent in protein analytics, biochemistry, biophysics or a related discipline

  • Knowledge and understanding of one or more biophysical techniques for characterisation of proteins such as SPR, BLI, SEC-HPLC, HIC-HPLC, DSF

  • Good analytical and data interpretation skills

  • Eligibility to work in the UK

  • Strong attention to detail in experimental setup; capability to multitask and run multiple experiments in parallel, good organisational and prioritisation skills

  • Adaptability in new scientific areas and ability to learn new techniques quickly

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience of analysis and interpretation of large and complex data sets

  • Experience of analysis of protein-protein interactions by SPR

  • Experience of characterisation of antibodies and multispecific antibodies by HPLC-based techniques

  • Strong team working & communication skills

  • Demonstrated problem solving abilities

  • An interest in data science and related disciplines would be useful
