The Chilbolton Observatory is operated by RAL Space and provides a unique combination of scientific and technical capabilities, supporting multiple research communities including atmospheric science, space situational awareness, radio astronomy and communications. This post of graduate RF engineer will form an integral part of the team based on site at the Observatory with strong links to the Millimetre Wave Technology team based at RAL. The core role is to be part of the team developing and managing operations of on-site radar equipment to support the requirements of user research programmes.

About the role and a summary of key duties & responsibilities
- Conduct and manage operations for atmospheric science radars and space situational awareness tracking systems
Support technical development of radars - Provide technical support for other projects operating at the Observatory.
To apply for this graduate opportunity, we are looking for the following:
Key - Shortlisting (S), at Interview (I) or both (S&I)
Essential:
- Achieved, or be on course to achieve, a minimum 2:1 degree, in a relevant field of study (S)
- Have the right to live and work in the UK at time of starting employment (S)
- Have own transport to reach Chilbolton Observatory
- Good general knowledge of basic electronics, including both analogue and digital design
- Knowledge of the C programming language
- Good communication skills
- Practical electronic assembly skills
- Experience with electronic test equipment
Desirable:
- RF design - radio links
- Programmable digital logic design - FPGA
- Experience with microcontrollers - PIC AVR etc
