Our Digital Communications team is seeking a Strategic Communication Manager to manage the day-to-day coordination of an experienced team of 12, focusing on continuous delivery and maximising the impact of our digital presence. You will ensure that the West Midlands Combined Authoritys (WMCA) message is consistent, engaging, and reaches audiences effectively. This role is integral to our communications team, focusing on strategic planning, content development, and the execution of multi-channel campaigns that align with our organisational goals.
Prioritising the WMCAs strategic objectives, you will provide cross-functional advice and develop communication plans to support our directorates in achieving their goals for the West Midlands.
To be successful in this role you must have strong interpersonal skills, be a creative thinker and results orientated.
This is a fixed term position, covering maternity leave, until August 2025.
What you will be doing.
  • Develop and deliver a digital communications strategy.
  • Oversee the evaluation of performance of digital communications.
  • Oversee any paid-for digital advertising for the organisation.
  • Lead on the development and delivery of an overarching digital communications strategy for the WMCA, the Mayor and Transport for West Midlands.
  • Manage the website and all social media channels.
  • Establish and chair a regional digital communications group with key partners.
  • Manage the digital communications budget.
Whats essential.
  • Substantial experience of working in a senior digital management role with a track record of successful development and delivery of digital campaigns and projects.
  • Knowledge / experience of media buying for digital channels.
  • Able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the use of analytics to benchmark, audit and improve digital content.
  • A proven track record of designing and implementing strategic communications plans.
  • Experience of successfully managing a team.
  • The ability to challenge and influence.
  • Excellent digital and visual communication skills.
  • Experience of delivering more than one communications function.

The location for this role is 16 Summer Lane. It is expected that you can split your time between the office and working remotely, with at least 3 days a week spent in the office. Please note, this is the minimum expectation.
