Role Definition

We are seeking an Instrumentation & Automation Engineer to develop, implement, and maintain automation systems for bio-methane and biogas production units.

Job Responsibilities:

As an Instrumentation & Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, installation, and maintenance of instrumentation systems and control solutions that ensure optimal, efficient, and safe operations of our bio-methane and biogas facilities. You will work closely with process engineers, safety teams, and operations to integrate automation and control systems that align with the project’s technical and regulatory requirements.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, configuring, and implementing instrumentation and control systems for bio-methane and biogas production processes.
  • Developing and programming PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and DCS (Distributed Control Systems) to ensure optimal automation of processes.
  • Overseeing the installation, calibration, and commissioning of field instruments such as flow meters, pressure sensors, temperature transmitters, and control valves.
  • Developing and maintaining SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems for real-time monitoring and control of production units.
  • Conducting loop checks, troubleshooting, and ensuring the reliability and accuracy of instrumentation systems.
  • Ensuring compliance with ATEX regulations and other safety standards for installations in hazardous environments.
  • Collaborating with process and electrical teams to integrate instrumentation into plant systems and ensure seamless communication between equipment.
  • Managing automation and control projects from conceptual design through installation and testing phases.
  • Creating and maintaining technical documentation, including functional design specifications (FDS) and instrument data sheets.
  • Conducting risk assessments and ensuring all automation systems comply with regulatory standards, including safety and environmental guidelines.
  • Providing technical support during startup, troubleshooting, and system optimization.
  • Participating in training and developing procedures for operators to ensure proper system use and safety.

Profile:

For Junior Profiles:

  • A degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Automation, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Initial experience (internship or junior role) in instrumentation, automation, or control systems for industrial projects.
  • Familiarity with PLC programming and basic understanding of field instruments and control systems.

For Senior Profiles:

  • 5+ years of experience in instrumentation and automation engineering within the energy, gas, or industrial sectors.
  • Time served demonstrable experience in Feasibility / Basic / FEED·
  • Proven expertise in designing, programming, and commissioning control systems, with experience in bio-methane, biogas, or related processes preferred.
  • Ability to lead and manage complex automation projects, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

1. Instrumentation Design and Integration

  • Experience in designing and integrating instrumentation systems for industrial environments (metering equipment and systems, plant layout design, hook up definition and design), including the selection and specification of field instruments (e.g., flow, pressure, level, and temperature instruments, valves control and safety)
  • Strong understanding of P&ID diagrams and the ability to integrate instrumentation into production processes.

2. PLC/DCS Programming and Configuration

  • Expertise in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider Electric) and configuring DCS systems for process automation.
  • Ability to program and configure control logic for continuous and batch processes, ensuring optimal system performance.

3. SCADA and HMI Systems

  • Proficiency in designing and configuring SCADA and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems for monitoring and controlling production processes.
  • Familiarity with SCADA platforms such as Wonderware, Ignition, or GE iFIX.

4. Calibration and Troubleshooting

  • Strong skills in calibration and troubleshooting of field instruments to ensure measurement accuracy and reliable performance.
  • Ability to conduct loop checks and instrument diagnostics to identify and resolve faults.

5. ATEX and Safety Standards

  • Understanding of ATEX regulations for instrumentation in explosive atmospheres and knowledge of safety standards in hazardous environments.
  • Experience in implementing instrumentation systems that meet safety integrity levels (SIL) and complying with standards like IEC 61511.

6. Communication Protocols

  • Expertise in industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, and HART, ensuring seamless integration between instruments and control systems.

7. Project Management

  • Experience managing instrumentation and automation projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to oversee the installation, commissioning, and testing of automation systems in compliance with project timelines.
