Salary: Scale 5 pt 12-17 £12,555 - £13,672 plus London Weighting

Hours: 20 hrs per week over 5 days , permanent term-time only

Wembley Primary School is a four form entry community school in the borough of Brent. We are fortunate to have extensive school grounds. All classrooms in EYFS and Years 1-3 have additional outdoor classroom spaces.

The School:

Wembley Primary School is a vibrant and inclusive learning environment dedicated to fostering the academic and personal growth of all our pupils. We believe that high attendance is crucial to achieving educational success, and we are looking for a committed and proactive Attendance Officer to join our team.

As the Primary Attendance Officer, you will play a vital role in promoting and improving pupil attendance across the school. You will work closely with pupils, parents, and staff to ensure that attendance policies are effectively implemented and that barriers to attendance are identified and addressed.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Monitor Attendance:

  • Maintain accurate attendance records for all pupils and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Analyse attendance data to identify patterns and trends, and report findings to senior leadership.

2. Engagement and Support:

  • Communicate with parents regarding attendance issues and provide support to improve attendance.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and pastoral staff to identify pupils at risk of persistent absence and develop intervention strategies.

3. Policy Implementation:

  • Implement the school’s attendance policy and ensure that all stakeholders understand their roles and responsibilities.
  • Promote a culture of high attendance through initiatives and incentives.

4. Legal Compliance:

  • Liaise with the local authority regarding attendance legal interventions when necessary.
  • Prepare documentation for attendance meetings and support the school in any legal proceedings related to attendance.

5. Reporting and Communication:

  • Provide regular updates to the senior leadership team regarding attendance statistics and improvement strategies.
  • Organise and lead attendance meetings with parents and relevant staff.

The Person:

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Previous experience in a similar role within a school environment is desirable. However, it is not essential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Be dedicated to achieving high quality care and provision for all children.
  • Be committed to high standards for yourself and others.
  • Be able to work in partnership with enthusiastic and supportive staff, parents, governors and the wider community.
  • Meet the criteria as outlined in the person specification

Person specification

Qualifications and training:

  • GCSE or equivalent level, including at least a Grade C in English Language (E)
  • GCSE or equivalent level, including at least a Grade C in Maths (D)

Experience:

  • Experience working in a school environment or other educational setting (D)
  • Experience identifying interventions to raise attendance of pupils (D)
  • Experience working directly with pupils and parents (D)
  • Experience working collaboratively with colleagues (E)
  • Experience analysing data and producing reports and identifying key insights (D)

Skills and knowledge:

  • Good listening skills (E)
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills(E)
  • Knowledge of the possible interventions to raise attendance (D)
  • Knowledge of the potential barriers to high attendance that pupils may face (D)
  • Ability to tailor interventions to individual pupils (D)
  • Ability to use IT systems and to conduct analysis and produce reports(E)
  • Good knowledge of Excel (D)
  • Ability to create good relationships with pupils, staff and parents (E)
