Speech and Language Therapist (Deafness)

If you are a highly motivated, enthusiastic and flexible Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist with an interest in working with SEN children, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join the Community team in Redbridge.

The post holder is responsible for delivering a comprehensive and highly specialist therapy service to deaf children in Redbridge. The service provides input for deaf children at Roding Primary School Deaf Provision Unit. You will also be required to provide advice and support to children in mainstream schools and preschool centres as necessary. The post holder has highly specialist knowledge in the assessment, diagnosis and therapy with effective communication outcomes for deaf children and young people.

Salary: £55,155 - £58258 (annum)

Main Duties

To carry a personal caseload, maintaining a high level of professional competence and demonstrating highly specialist clinical expertise in the assessment, treatment and management of speech, language and communication problems.
To monitor and review the progress of children on the caseload and facilitate the development or modification of packages of care/targets as appropriate using evaluation/outcome measurement tools.
To work effectively as part of the MDT with clients, carers, and colleagues around individual case management; promoting deaf awareness, reporting safe guarding incidences, providing specialist advice, guidance and support as necessary and involving them in the planning and prioritisation of care wherever possible.
To reflect on clinical practice; adequately identifying strengths & needs of clients, reviewing their response to therapy and providing evidence of expert clinical judgement including in cases which are complex and challenging.
To have a minimum qualification of Level 2 British Sign Language in order to communicate and deliver a highly effective service to deaf children, carers and deaf colleagues, or be willing to train to this level.
To be able to analyse conflicting information and provide clear guidance and detailed reports on children seen.
To facilitate and support schools and families in providing appropriate communication environments to develop children's language and interaction skills.
To take a clinical lead as required within the team
To demonstrate highly specialist knowledge and clinical effectiveness underpinned by current evidence-based practice and outcome measures.
To make appropriate diagnoses and highly specialist clinical decisions on evidence from assessment of complex cases, including differential diagnoses.
To work closely with clients, carers and families, with empathy, tact, reassurance and active listening to fully discuss assessment results, treatment options, and to agree a plan of management
To communicate complex information to carers, families and members of the multidisciplinary team/other professions, ensuring that effective communication is achieved, particularly where barriers to understanding exist.

What you'll need as a Speech Language Therapist (Deafness):

Highly specialist knowledge acquired through degree or equivalent qualifications, including further theoretical training and experience to Master's level equivalent in required speciality
Continued Professional Development evidenced by attendance at short specialist postgraduate courses to maintain and develop own specialist knowledge and expertise.
Recognised Speech & Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent (Post Graduate Diploma or MSc in Speech & Language Therapy leading to registration with HCPC)
HCPC Licence to Practice, Registered member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, Membership of relevant CEN
6 months of paid patient facing UK nursing experience from within the past 3 years
