Responsibilities Receives, sorts, disassembles, decontaminates, cleans, assembles, wraps, sterilizes, and stores instruments, equipment and hospital supplies from all user areas. Prepares equipment, instruments and supplies for storage and distribution by checking, testing, calibrating, assembling, packaging, wrapping and sterilizing according to established procedures. Operates departmental equipment such as automated washers, cart washer, pasteurizer, ultrasonic washer, clean dryer, heat sealer, and sterilizers. Reports and/or removes any malfunctioning equipment or instruments. Issues and/or delivers supplies when requested. Maintains in conjunction with the Supervisor or Leader, departmental stock of supplies according to established procedures by checking against inventory levels. Rotates stock and reprocesses outdated supplies according to departmental procedures. Participates in routine maintenance of Department's equipment by cleaning, checking and testing sterilizers, mechanical washers and other MDR equipment; cleans work and storage areas as required. Participates in the Department's Quality Assurance Program. Performs clerical duties such as assisting with recording of workload statistics on supplies and equipment dispatched from the department, answering the telephone, completing maintenance requisitions for signature, maintaining records, filing, and typing. Participates in staff orientation as requested. Picks supplies and instruments for surgical cases. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education and Experience Grade 12, plus successful completion of a recognized Sterile Supply Processing program, plus one year's recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Skills and Abilities Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to deal effectively with others. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position. Ability to operate related equipment. Knowledge of surgical and medical terminology. Mathematical aptitude. Ability to organize work.
