Job Title: Learning Support Assistant (LSA)

Location: Post-16 College

Where: London Borough of Lewisham

Contract Type: Monday to Friday, Contract

Daily rate: £85 - £100 a day (depending on experience)

Post-16 College in the London Borough of Lewisham is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant (LSA).

As an LSA at this post-16 college you will support students with a range of special educational needs (SEN) including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, behavioural challenges, Down syndrome, and wheelchair users, all of whom can access their education.

This LSA position involves providing 1:1 support and assisting in the classroom to ensure that all students have equal access to education and opportunities. You can build a strong rapport with students, able to de-escalate behaviour if required. Additionally you will be supporting them within the classroom.

Previous experience working as an LSA or in a similar role, preferably within a Post-16 setting.
Experience supporting students with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, behavioural challenges, Down syndrome, and wheelchair users.
Strong understanding of SEN and the ability to implement effective support strategies.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to supporting young people with SEN.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or SEN support are desirable but not essential.
Providing 1:1 and group support to students with a range of SEN, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, behavioural issues, Down syndrome, and wheelchair users.
Assist students in accessing the curriculum and participating in classroom activities.
Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies under the guidance of the SEN Coordinator and teaching staff.
Support students in developing social skills, independence, and emotional well-being.
Assist with the physical needs of students, including mobility support for wheelchair users.
Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and SEN staff.
Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to ensure cohesive support for students.
Attend training sessions and meetings as required.
Uphold safeguarding procedures and ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times.
You must have an in date Enhanced DBS on the update service or able to pay for a new one ASAP.
