Job Description

We are currently looking for experienced Practice educators to support our anaesthetic practitioners at St Georges . You will be supported by our network of PEs within the Theatre and Anaesthetic department.



The successful post holders will have the prime responsibility for co-ordinating the anaesthetic team, ODP apprentices and student's education and training, working to promote a culture of collaborative working and providing professional leadership and skilled knowledge.



The role is clinically based with the emphasis on working alongside staff to support them in their learning in practice, developing innovative ways of teaching staff skills and assessment via a competency programme.



The post holder will be working closely with the Team Leaders and will be expected to take charge in their absence.



The post holder




  • Will be responsible for ensuring that our newly recruited nurses undergo a thorough induction process and are supported in gaining their competencies and providing excellent evidence based care to our patients.

  • Will be responsible for coordinating in house teaching and facilitating learning for all staff

  • Will participate in the development of evidence based practice, protocols and policies concerning staff development and education.





You will need to be a qualified RN /ODP with a recognised teaching and mentorship course.



Main duties of the job



Foster an environment which values education as part of the philosophy of the practice area.- Co-ordinate/facilitate educational activities for registered and non-registered nursing and midwifery staff within the designated practice area.- The post holder will establish and maintain links with Kingston Faculty of Healthcare Sciences, Kings College London and South Bank University (as appropriate).- Improve the patient experience and care standards on the wards/clinical areas.- Actively participate in national and corporate projects for example the QIPP agenda, Energising for Excellence work streams, Saving Lives Campaign, Productivity and Theatre Sustainability agenda.- Demonstrate a commitment towards the development of professional and clinical practice (self and others).- Work collaboratively as a member of the Practice Educator's Forum

Qualification and Training

Essential




  • RN/RCN/RSCN/ODP/RM

  • Post registration specialist practice qualification

  • Mentorship qualification or equivalent

  • Degree or equivalent experience or qualifications



Desirable




  • Masters qualifications or working towards it

  • Working towards post graduate teaching qualification

  • NVQ assessor training

  • Simulation trainer



Experience

Essential




  • 3 years' experience as a mentor in theatres

  • Minimum 4 years relevant clinical experience , 2 years at senior staff nurse level at Band 6

  • Ability to teach, educate and facilitate informal and formal solutions

  • Be a sign-off mentor



Desirable




  • Previous educational/practice development post

  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant specialist curriula, including mentorship programme

  • Experience at career advising
