Position Overview: Garment Technologist

We are looking for an in-house Garment Technologist to play a key role within our Product Team. This position will:


  1. Carry your own product categories from development stage all the way through to production
  2. Ensure that our factories are maintaining brand standards and producing product to expectations
  3. Follow and understand the CP to ensure that product is delivered to the correct times for both SMS and Bulk Production

Key Responsibilities:


  • Maintaining blocks and gradings and assigning the correct blocks to the correct styles.
  • Developing new blocks when needed: researching closely with design to confirm how they would like to develop the range using reference samples, store visits and previous pattern knowledge.
  • Leading your fit sessions for your own categories ensuring that comments are completed on DeSL system and sent to suppliers in a clear and timely manner.
  • Assessing possible new development fabrics and trims with suppliers to confirm that Lyle and Scott testing standard can be met.
  • Working with factories once buys are placed to ensure all styles can follow sealing process and meet Ex factory date (Sealers, testing, care label approved, PP approval)
  • Issuing full testing and wash care requirements sheets to suppliers for all of your products and ensure testing is carried out and passing to Lyle and Scott standard.
  • Checking external AQLs of bulk production to ensure that bulk production from suppliers is to correct standard.
  • Visit the factories when needed to check standards are correct and to help relay comments / handover new developments

Qualifications / Experience:

  • Degree or equivalent fashion qualification
  • 4 years minimum previous Garment Technologist experience
  • Commercial business experience
  • Experience of full product life span from development to production
  • Good knowledge of MS office
  • Strong knowledge on fabric and fitting
  • Able to work in a fast paced environment
  • Able to work under time pressures and restraints
  • Flexible in moving and expanding workload
  • Strong organisation skills
  • Strong communication skills
