Summary:

The Senior System Administrator's role is to manage and tune in-house computer software and storage systems and resources to ensure high levels of availability and security of the supported business applications for the company's credit union partners. This individual also participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure server and storage system provisioning, efficiency, and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.

Under minimal supervision, this expert-level position is responsible for the maintenance, operation, and planning of the enterprise technical systems including, but not limited to servers, data storage services, operating systems, enterprise imaging, email system, data backup and recovery systems, and data access security. Responsible for leading capacity planning, functional and technical design of enterprise systems, and resolution of complex problems. Oversees the testing, implementation, maintenance, documentation, and development of operation and maintenance procedures. Executes enterprise system design (functional and technical), planning, and implementation. Provides assistance in troubleshooting escalated issues related to system failures and problems. Acts independently to troubleshoot complex problems immediately to avoid costly down time and service outages. Carries out the responsibilities of the position in accordance with company Information Security Policies and Procedures. Works with management, business groups and staff, Business Partners, Vendors, and Customers.

Strategy & Planning
  • Participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for systems and software in conjunction with end-users and department managers.
Acquisition & Deployment
  • Coordinate with network administration, application support, and database administration functions to implement desktop and server systems that utilize industry best practices to meet corporate objectives.
  • Deploy workstations, servers, printers, scanners, encryption systems, and host security systems.
  • Work with systems and database administrators to implement storage architectures that utilize industry best practices including Information Lifecycle Management and Hierarchical Storage Management.
  • Install and configure storage devices and corresponding software.
  • Implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of storage appliances and stored data assets.
  • Establish appropriate end-user access control levels for stored data.
Operational Management:
  • Manage all operating systems and end-user software.
  • Manage communications (e-mail, IM, mobile devices) and connection solutions, including workstation connectivity, local area networks, company Web site, intranet, and Internet applications.
  • Ensure the integrity and security of enterprise data on host computers, multiple Microsoft SQL databases, and during data transfer in accordance to business needs and industry best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage end user accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations in accordance with best practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Perform network and security audits.
  • Perform and test routine system backups and restores to ensure that enterprise data is effectively protected.
  • Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on servers, input/output devices, and workstations. Escalate incidents as necessary.
  • Practice enterprise asset management, including maintenance of desktop and server component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
  • Support application development teams throughout project lifecycles.
  • Analyze system, server, application, network, and input/output device performance.
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations, and/or purchases.
  • Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems software procurement and development efforts.
  • Create required reports in response to business user needs.
  • Participate in negotiations with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure software products and services.
  • Develop, document, and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for system administration and appropriate use.
  • Maintains corporate email programs and server.
  • Participate and complete all authorized projects, meeting defined functionality requirements, due dates, resource usage, and budgetary requirements.
  • Perform and participate in After Action Reviews of technical support issues and security response activities.
  • Meet or exceed defined infrastructure SLA's for Service and System Availability.
  • Keep Management informed of all issues and provides management reports for infrastructure environment.
  • Assist technical support group team members with technical issues and projects.
  • Supports and participates in Security Incident Response and Disaster Recovery activities.
  • Provide technical support to company Help Desk and other internal groups as needed.
  • Perform tasks necessary to fulfill service level agreements with end-users regarding storage allocations, limitations, security, and availability.
  • Communicate and enforce, through system procedures, data storage retention policies.
  • Follow change control, incident response, and testing processes for modifications to storage appliances and software.
  • Anticipate, mitigate, identify, respond to, and resolve issues with storage devices, storage access, and data retrieval.
  • Research and make recommendations on storage products, services, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
  • Monitor, analyze, and predict trends for storage equipment performance, space allocation, and data growth to recommend enhancements to the IT storage team.
  • Develop routines for end-users to facilitate storage best practices, including desktop storage administration.
  • Remain informed on storage laws, trends, and issues, including current and emerging technologies and best practices; advise, counsel, and educate executive and management teams on their relative importance.
  • Ensure that information storage measures and equipment adhere to all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Perform storage server/database transaction and security audits leading to identification and mitigation of security threats to enterprise data. Recommend and implement changes where necessary.
  • Create required reports in response to business user needs.
  • Develop, document, and maintain operational processes and tasks.
  • Ability to be on call 24 x 7 and/or provide on call support as part of team on call rotation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Formal Education & Certification
  • College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and/or 6-10 years equivalent work experience.
  • Hold and maintain one or more active certifications in Microsoft, VMware, Linux technologies.
Knowledge & Experience
  • Qualified candidate must have 6-10 years of server experience with at least four years in a corporate environment managing your own technical projects or providing technical support services.
  • Expert technical knowledge of network, PC, and server platforms and operating systems, including HP, Cisco, Microsoft Windows Server 2012/16/19, VMware ESXi 6+, and Red Hat Linux.
  • Extensive application support experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange Online, VMware Horizon, Citrix, Microsoft 365, Cohesity, Altiris, and Microsoft Defender.
  • Expert technical knowledge of current systems software, protocols, and standards, including Microsoft Active Directory and/or Azure Active Directory.
  • Strong knowledge of local area network administration.
  • Hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with data management.
  • Experience documenting and maintaining configuration and process information.
  • Good understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Good understanding of storage architecture design techniques, theories, principles, and practices.
  • Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring, and supporting storage servers and management software.
  • Hands-on Fibre Channel SAN/NAS/DAS troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with backup and restore technologies.
  • Knowledge of applicable data retention practices and laws.
  • Experience desired in developing and submitting storage audits and compliance reports to governing bodies, legal entities, and/or external authorities.

  • General office environment with low noise levels.
  • 40-hour on-site work week with On-Call availability as part of department on call rotation.
  • Ability to work some weekends as part of regularly scheduled maintenance windows.

Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary range between $105,000 (min) and $130,000 (max)
  • In addition, this position is eligible for an annual bonus eligibility with a target payout of 10%, based on company and individual performance
