The Director of Development Marketing leads the strategic direction and execution of all donor related communication and engagement efforts, successfully conveying Brightpoint’s impact & value proposition across donor audiences. This role focuses on optimizing the donor experience, overseeing events, enhancing digital and direct mail strategies, and supporting statewide giving initiatives. This position will report to the Vice President of Advancement.


Core Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions:


Marketing & Communications (50% of role):




  • Achieves revenue goals identified within the annual budget.




  • Sets and oversees general donor communications and marketing strategies to engage, retain, and acquire donors statewide.




  • Works in close partnership with the Director of Development to ensure strong donor communications and outreach.




  • Oversees the statewide annual giving program.




  • In collaboration with the Communications Department, develops the communications calendar.




  • Oversees strategy for and production of direct mail and email campaigns, including newsletters, social media posts/ads, and personalized content for Development team members’ one-on-one donor engagement.




  • Leads the development staff in the development and implementation of event communications.




  • Defines an annual donor communications plan that highlights programmatic funding priorities and sector leadership promising projects.




  • Maintains compelling and clear fundraising material to effectively communicate the organization's brand, mission, and goals.




  • Coaches the Development Communications Associate to develop compelling, insightful narratives that use asset-based language and reflect the organization’s values and brand voice.




  • Oversees the content and functionality of development-related web pages, in collaboration with the organization’s Communications Department




  • Collaborates with the Communications Department on story collection, including conducting interviews and writing compelling narratives and scripts to inspire donors.




  • Collaborates with the Director of Communications on event scripts and story arcs to ensure strong messaging.




  • Oversees the development of the live program, invitations, and sponsorship menu for fundraising events.




  • Develops a strategic plan for the annual Holiday Gift Drive, ensuring successful donor engagement and fundraising outcomes.




  • Oversees the planning and execution of open house events to showcase the organization’s facilities and programs.




  • Provides insights and recommendations during the budget planning process.




  • Manages the marketing portion of the Development Department budget.




  • Reviews and approves vendor contracts submitted by the Development Communications Associate.




  • Attends and works at all fundraising events, as assigned, and may attend other events, as needed.




  • Develops strong knowledge and understanding of Brightpoint’s programs and uses that knowledge to engage donors.




Team Leadership (30% of role):




  • Supervises, manages workload, and monitors performance of the Manager of Events and Development Communications Associate. This includes hiring and training staff, implementing the organization’s personnel policies and practices, approval of timecards, performance appraisals, performance improvement plans, leaves, promotions, salary changes, terminations, and documentation of all personnel actions.




  • Coaches the Manager of Events to ensure successful event execution, from initial planning to post-event follow-up.




  • Analyzes feedback and data, including the return on investment (ROI,) for every event, and makes recommendations for improvement.




  • Coaches the Development Communications Associate to ensure effective and compelling donor communication across channels, and engagement of new and mid-level donors.




  • Oversees the Development SharePoint site, ensuring that the site is up-to-date, well organized, and serves as a valuable resource for the team.




  • Coaches the Development Communications Associate to manages a portfolio of new and lower-level donors, ensuring regular and meaningful engagement.




  • Ensures clear and regular collaboration with the Communications team.




Data Management & Analysis (20% of role):




  • Measures and reports on the progress of initiatives and key performance metrics, providing actionable insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.




  • Utilizes customer relationship management software (CRM) data to track and analyze donor interactions, informing strategic decisions and optimizing donor engagement.




  • Enhances the donor experience and data collection by streamlining the processes for donations, event attendance, and other engagement activities.




  • Optimizes online giving platforms and ensures a seamless user experience for donors across all digital touchpoints

Candidate qualifications:




  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field preferred.




  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in fundraising and marketing, with annual giving experience required.




  • A minimum of 3 years of management experience required.




  • Experience working with budgets and basic financial budget concepts required.




  • Demonstrates a proven track record in campaign development, donor communications, and brand storytelling.




  • Demonstrates a deep understanding of digital marketing channels and technologies, including social media, email marketing, and analytics platforms.




  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to articulate a compelling brand narrative and vision across mediums and audiences and clear report on progress, concerns, and recommendations.




  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with Development team and other organization staff, Board and auxiliary members, vendors, and external organizations.




  • Works effectively in a team-oriented, collaborative environment and builds positive relationships with donors, staff, and external stakeholders while maintaining professional boundaries.




  • Must have access to transit or other reliable transportation to execute the position’s responsibilities.




Job details:




  • Compensation: Salary Range starts at $85k; offers are commensurate with candidate qualifications and experience.

  • Schedule: Full-time, salaried. Regular business hours with remote flexibility 1-2 days/week.
