Senior Quantity Surveyor – Cambridge (site based) Kentish Town (HQ)

Would you like to join one of the UK's Best Big Companies as awarded by Best Companies?

Murphy Technical Services (MTS) is growing, and we are seeking the right calibre of commercial resource to support this.

MTS sits within the multi-disciplined Specialist Businesses Unit of J Murphy & Sons. This includes building, ground engineering, electrical services, utility connections, design and engineering, alongside the specialisms of the wider business; this role focuses on mechanical and electrical services, required initially as part of a new build train station, and then beyond.

The business unit provides ideal opportunities for those wishing to take on more responsibility and operate at a business level rather than simply one project; as a commercial team we are delivery focussed, whilst maintaining the Murphy family feel.

Reporting into the Commercial Manager leading the portfolio, the right individual will commercially lead the Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems (MEPH) work package for Cambridge South Station. This role would be good for anyone looking for a new and exciting challenge and for anyone looking to gain exposure and experience to all aspects of commercial delivery within a project from start to finish, working closely alongside their operational counterparts.

What will you be doing?

  • Drafting and input on contract and subcontract negotiations, subcontract management and agreement of final accounts
  • Ensuring awareness off and compliance with our key risk parameters
  • Build on and manage client, supplier and internal relationships.
  • Preparation and presentation of monthly project cost value reconciliation, ensuring your awareness and compliance with revenue recognition rules.
  • Review and progress the management of opportunity and threat.
  • Define and implement a commercial strategy for each project.
  • Ensure compliance with year end.
  • Preparation of applications for payment to maintain cash position, including WIP control, cash flow production and improvement plans.
  • Input into growing your own high performing team, highlighting your resourcing needs to line and project management.
  • Mentor and oversee the progression of junior team members (not just commercial)
  • Input into apprentice and graduate recruitment annually

Who we are looking for

  • Experience in energy, highway, rail, or M&E projects
  • NEC experience
  • Gained or seeking to attain professional accreditation, MRICS, MCICES, MCIOB or equivalent.
  • Commercially astute with substantial proven experience within a commercial role in the Construction Industry
  • Good knowledge of Standard Forms of Contract and Standard Methods of Measurement.
  • Degree or equivalent to support a commercial background.
  • Full driving licence
