About the role:

Are you passionate about supporting children with special educational needs? Join a warm and inclusive primary school in the heart of Islington as an SEN Teaching Assistant, specialising in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience working with non-verbal students to make a meaningful difference in a supportive, well-resourced environment. As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with a small group of non-verbal students, supporting their academic, social, and emotional development. Your main focus will be on Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 students, with particular emphasis on creating an engaging and supportive environment that allows non-verbal children with ASD to flourish. Your role will involve close collaboration with teachers, speech and language therapists, and the wider SEN team.

Application Requirements:

• Experience working with non-verbal children, particularly those on the autism spectrum.

• Ability to use or learn alternative communication methods such as PECS or Makaton.

• A genuine passion for supporting children with SEN and a patient, empathetic approach.

• Previous experience in a school or educational setting is desirable but not essential.

• Relevant qualifications or training in working with children with ASD are advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 and small group support to non-verbal students with ASD, helping them access the curriculum and engage in classroom activities.

• Use tailored communication strategies to enhance understanding and interaction, including using visual aids, PECS, or Makaton.

• Assist the class teacher in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and monitor progress.

• Support students in developing social and communication skills, helping to build their confidence.

• Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment where all children feel valued and supported.

Perks and Benefits:

This role offers a highly rewarding opportunity to grow professionally while making a real difference in children’s lives. You will be joining a school with a strong commitment to staff well-being and professional development.
