A fantastic opportunity has become available at Nationwide for a passionate and ambitious individual to bring specialist risk & control expertise to enable our Technology Leaders, our Chief Information Officers (CIOs), to operate and execute effective controls and make informed risk-based decisions relating to good customer outcomes.

You’ll be passionate about developing data led approaches to delivering risk and control insight that drives proactive action and prioritisation.


You’ll have a track record of delivery, with high standards of performance and be able to build trust and strong working relationships.

You’ll be comfortable to work through ambiguity and proactively build your network to allow you to engage collaboratively across other Risk Management teams and subject matter experts to produce high quality and informative products.


This role is within the CIO & Change Risk Management Team and will support the delivery of risk and control services across our CIOs that are closely interlocked with providing simply brilliant services to our customers. The team is responsible for the provision of subject matter expertise, objective advice and actionable insight to support CIOs understand, evaluate and improve the risk and control environment as it relates to the management of their portfolio of technology and change.

What you’ll be doing

Activities vary from supporting risk and control assessments to inform strategic change decision making, through to analysing incidents and loss events to identify root causes and opportunities for control improvements.

You’ll be pivotal in supporting CIOs to ensure that they operate technology and deliver change in a way that keeps Nationwide and its Customers safe.

You’ll deliver work through building positive relationships across key stakeholders including Platform Managers, Engineers, Architects, IT Service Managers, Product Owners and Programme Managers who operate technology and deliver change.


We’ll need you to understand our Enterprise Risk Management Framework and Policy landscape. However, more importantly you’ll bring experience and understanding of key risk management concepts and / or technical experience working with technology and delivering change insight and advice to bring fresh valuable external perspectives.

In fact, one of your key areas of focus in the first six months will be to support the assessment and evaluation of a strategic platform’s risk and controls posture. You will support in the delivery risk management service catalogue against the needs of the CIO you will help support and execute at pace against priority deliverables.


About you

You’ll need to operate autonomously, working collaboratively across risk partnering, and be able to adapt to a challenging and changing environment through a growth mindset. As a minimum requirement you’ll have:

  • Working experience and understanding in one or more areas of risk management as it relates to Technology, Information Security and Transformation.
  • Demonstrable experience in risk management, controls assessment and risk reporting in complex environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication as you'll be presenting information to a mixture of audiences and senior stakeholders. Relationship management and influencing skills is therefore key.
  • Ability to work independently and to demonstrate initiative.
  • Analytical skills, able to interpret and report on complex data and to identify trends and present alternative solutions and recommendations.
  • Ability to network and collaborate across teams and functions.
  • Possess or willing to work towards an industry recognised professional qualification relevant to the role.
