Job Description

About the role: Are you passionate about education and committed to supporting young adults with special needs? A wonderful opportunity awaits for a Student Support Assistant (SSA) to join our highly regarded college in Southgate, Enfield. Become part of a dedicated team that is transforming the lives of students with Special Educational Needs in a thriving learning environment. As a Student Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students aged 16-24 with a range of needs, including PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities), MLD (Moderate Learning Disabilities), autism, and physical difficulties. Some students are non-verbal and communicate through tablets or visual cards, while others are verbal but may need assistance to express themselves.

This is a full-time, 4-day-per-week position, where you will work closely with students to help them develop their independence and reach their potential. You will be involved in assisting with personal care, such as toileting, so experience in a care role is advantageous. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people as they transition into adulthood.

About the college: Our college is renowned for its expansive curriculum, offering over 15 different subjects across three beautiful, modern campuses. With over 13,000 students, we provide an unparalleled educational experience in state-of-the-art facilities. The college is a leader in SEN support, ensuring that all students, especially those with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs), receive the guidance they need to succeed. The LLDD department is at the heart of our inclusive learning community, providing a safe and engaging space for students with diverse needs.

Application Requirements:

• Previous experience in supporting young adults with SEN, particularly those with PMLD, MLD, and autism.
• A care background is highly desirable, with experience in personal care and toileting.
• A patient and empathetic approach to helping students overcome challenges.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• A commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support students with a range of physical and learning disabilities, ensuring they have access to the resources they need.
• Assist non-verbal students in communicating through alternative methods, such as tablets and visual aids.
• Collaborate with SLTs (Speech and Language Therapists) and other staff members to deliver effective and personalized support.
• Provide compassionate assistance with personal care tasks, including toileting, ensuring student dignity and comfort.
• Encourage students’ social, emotional, and academic growth in a safe, supportive environment.

Perks and Benefits:

• Earn between £85-£110 per day, with room for growth and development.
• Work in an inspiring, modern educational setting with cutting-edge facilities.
• Access to ongoing professional development and CPD opportunities.
• Be part of a supportive, welcoming team that values every staff member's contribution.
• Make a real difference in the lives of young people as they pursue their academic and personal goals.
