About the role: We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a warm and welcoming primary school in Barnet, London. This full-time, long-term role offers the chance to work closely with students who have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and contribute to their academic and social development. In this rewarding role, you’ll work across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, providing one-on-one and small group support to children with severe and complex learning difficulties. You’ll be instrumental in delivering tailored teaching strategies that meet each child’s unique needs, helping them thrive in a nurturing and inclusive environment. Patience and kindness are essential for this position, as you’ll be working with children who require additional emotional and behavioural support. Experience in supporting children with ASD is required, while a qualification in special educational needs would be highly beneficial.

About the school: Located in a vibrant area of Barnet, the school is known for its strong sense of community and dedication to creating an inclusive learning environment for all children. The school has small class sizes, allowing for more focused support and enabling staff to build meaningful relationships with each child. The school’s facilities are modern and well-equipped with specialised resources tailored to the needs of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Each classroom is designed to promote sensory learning and encourage independent thinking, while the school’s extensive outdoor space provides opportunities for students to engage in physical activity and relaxation.

Application Requirements:

• Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or other special educational needs.
• A relevant qualification in special educational needs (beneficial but not essential).
• Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach to working with children who require additional support.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with teachers, students, and parents.
• A DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Service) or willingness to obtain one before starting the role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide one-on-one and group support for children with ASD in both academic and social settings.
• Implement tailored teaching strategies to meet the specific needs of each child.
• Assist the classroom teacher in creating an inclusive learning environment that promotes student engagement and confidence.
• Monitor student progress and adapt support methods as needed, ensuring that children are meeting their learning objectives.
• Encourage positive behaviour and emotional well-being, offering pastoral care as required.

Perks and Benefits:

• Competitive daily rate of £85-£100.
• Opportunity to work in a supportive and inclusive school with small class sizes.
• Professional development and training opportunities to enhance your SEN knowledge.
• Work alongside a dedicated team with extensive experience in SEND support.
• Access to the school’s state-of-the-art resources for children with special educational needs.
