Job Description
Position: Ojibway Language Teacher Location: Rorketon School Start Date: As soon as possible FTE: .50 FTE Term of Employment: Permanent Application Deadline: Open Until Filled The Division provides a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits, transportation and moving expense reimbursement, subsidized housing or housing allowance and isolation allowance in qualifying communities, annual travel reimbursement, reimbursement for approved courses and more Rorketon School is a Kindergarten to Grade 12 school approximately 3 hours northwest of Winnipeg and 1 hour northeast of Dauphin. The school has a student population of 91 students with a teaching staff of 7 and 15 support staff members. Qualifications: Bachelor of Education Degree and Valid Manitoba Teaching Certificate (or eligibility for) Fluency in Ojibway language both written and oral Knowledge of Indigenous culture, history, and the Truth and Reconciliation calls to action Previous teaching experience Familiarity with the Kindergarten to Grade 12 Aboriginal Languages and Culture: Manitoba Curriculum Framework of Outcomes A team player committed to the belief that all students can learn Duties and Responsibilities: Provide instruction to increase students’ ability to understand, speak and use a written form of the Ojibway language and improve cultural knowledge Incorporate Indigenous Way of Life and ways of learning into classroom instruction Gather resources to support language instruction including localized knowledge/speakers Establish community connections with the local associations and organizations that promote Indigenous Languages and Way of Life Assist in the coordination of school cultural activities in cooperation with fellow teachers and community knowledge keepers Applicants are required to submit the following: cover letter current resume list of three professional references including contact numbers, all of whom must have knowledge of the applicant’s performance in the applicant’s current or recent assignment Thank you for your interest; however, only applicants selected for an interview will be contacted.
