Job Description

About the role: We are seeking a dedicated Student Support Assistant (SSA) to join our outstanding team at a large college in Southgate, Enfield, London. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, supporting students in the LLDD (Learners with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities) department. As a Student Support Assistant, you will be working closely with students aged 16-24, all of whom have EHCPs. You will support students with a range of needs, including PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities), MLD (Moderate Learning Disabilities), and physical difficulties. Many students also have autism, and you will work alongside Speech and Language Therapists (SLT) to assist them with their communication needs. Some students are verbal, while others use alternative methods such as tablets and visual cards.

This role involves working 4 days per week and requires candidates who are compassionate and committed to the wellbeing of these learners. Some personal care and toileting assistance may be required, so individuals with a care background are highly desirable. You will be a key part of a team that enables these young adults to achieve their goals in a supportive and inclusive environment.

About the College: This large college is known for its vibrant learning environment, offering over 15 subject areas across three state-of-the-art campuses. With a beautiful campus and over 13,000 students, the college delivers hundreds of courses, making it a thriving hub for education and personal growth. The college is well-equipped with fantastic SEN support, providing a nurturing space for all students, especially those with EHCPs (Education, Health, and Care Plans).

Application Requirements:

• Experience working with young adults or individuals with SEN (Special Educational Needs).
• Ideally, a care background with experience in personal care.
• Understanding of various learning disabilities, including PMLD, MLD, and autism.
• Patience, empathy, and a commitment to improving the lives of students with learning difficulties.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other staff and specialists.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide tailored support to students with physical and learning difficulties, ensuring their needs are met both academically and personally.
• Assist students in the use of communication tools, such as tablets and visual aids, for those who are non-verbal.
• Work collaboratively with SLTs and other specialists to deliver consistent and effective support.
• Ensure students’ personal care needs are met, including toileting and hygiene support where necessary.
• Foster a positive, inclusive environment that promotes student independence and wellbeing.

Perks and Benefits:

• Competitive daily rate of £85-£110.
• Opportunity to work in a well-resourced, state-of-the-art college.
• Professional development and CPD opportunities.
• Supportive and inclusive team environment.
• The chance to make a real impact in the lives of young adults with learning disabilities.
