Job Description

Harrison Western was founded in 1968 and has provided superior design and construction services to the mining, geotechnical, civil and tunneling industries for over 50 years. Additionally, Underground Infrastructure Technologies, LLC (UIT), a division of Harrison Western, is a full-service utility contractor specializing in trenchless technologies. UIT performs wet and dry utility installations utilizing both trenchless technologies and open cut excavation to complete projects, large or small in multiple geographic markets.

We are seeking an experienced Civil/Geotechnical Superintendent for projects throughout the nation. The Civil/Geotechnical Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing all on-site construction activities including managing laborers, operators, schedule, vendors, and subcontractors. They ensure the project is completed within timelines and budget, with adherence to the company's quality and safety standards.

We are looking for someone with strong leadership skills, ability to provide guidance to field staff and who can ensure the smooth functioning of day-to-day needs of the project. We are looking for a driven individual who is looking for opportunities to learn and grow and help build a hardworking team. The majority of Geotechnical work is focused in the Rocky Mountains but we may also perform work in other states. Harrison Western completes projects in remote locations, in mountainous and hard to access areas. Problem solving, being a team player and planning are of high importance. This position requires extensive and continuous travel with some allowance for time to go home.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Ensures that site safety measures meet or exceed the parameters set out by corporate safety manual, safety plan, client requirements or any other authorities
  • Responsible for coordinating job personnel and materials, equipment, and all work activities to successfully complete tasks and projects on schedule
  • Ensures that projects are constructed according to approved plans, specifications and applicable policies and procedures and that efficiency in labor and materials maintain high quality standards
  • Is a leader and mentor for their crew and promotes the company safety culture, goals and objectives
  • Recruits and hires qualified individuals to maintain high-performing teams
  • Reviews crew timesheets, manages the accurate reporting of labor and equipment hours, works within project budgets and schedules to achieve success
  • Completes and oversees all daily work documentation and other paperwork required, submitting on a timely basis
  • Conducts pre and post shift toolbox meetings to clearly communicate daily work scope and project goals to the crew
  • Ensures equipment operation is performed safely and within company, client and regulatory agency requirements
  • Resolves plan and specification discrepancies with project team

Qualifications:
  • 8 years' experience in heavy civil and/or geotechnical construction required
  • 5 years' experience as a Superintendent in heavy civil and/or geotechnical construction required
  • Extensive experience in geotechnical construction methods including soil nails, ground anchors, micro piles, compaction and permeation grouting, and other shoring and ground improvement techniques preferred
  • Solid understanding of modern construction practices, equipment operation
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings, technical specifications, and survey
  • Ability to adapt information and communication style to the audience
  • Skilled at promoting teamwork to establish consensus among team and stakeholders
  • Capable of identifying key issues and patterns in moderately complex situations and spotting new, less obvious solutions
  • Ability to travel extensively to different jobsites throughout the United States
