Job Description

This role requires you to install and configure DBMS, manage database schemas and objects, implement security policies, monitor performance and tuning parameters, manage user access and permissions and perform general maintenance tasks.

EssentialQualifications
  • Graduate level education or relevant professional experience. (A)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development. (A)
Knowledge
  • Good knowledge of Azure Cloud Computing. (A, I)
  • Good knowledge of Data architectures including Data warehouses and relational databases and Data modelling techniques. ( A, I)
  • Knowledge of database Backup/Recovery techniques, including database clustering techniques on varied database technologies. ( A, I)
  • Knowledge of management of dimensional models, SQL scripting. ( A, I)
Skills/Ability
  • Communicating between the technical and non-technical:
    • You can communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Data integration design:
    • You can understand the concepts and principles of data modelling.
    • You can produce relevant data models across multiple subject areas.
    • You can reverse-engineer data models from a live system.

Experience
  • Experience in the following disciplines:
  • Experience using Azure Cloud Computing, including Azure Managed Instance, Azure Data Lakes, and Azure SQL.
  • Experience using MSSQL stack.
  • Efficient and conformant Database Design skills.
  • Knowledge and experience of SQL Server Optimisation techniques.
  • Experience in Troubleshooting SQL Servers.
  • In-depth experience in developing and running a data warehouse, tasks including tracking data changes, migration, archiving and monitoring data systems.
  • Experience using Agile methodologies, including Scrum or Kanban. (A, I)
DesirableQualifications
  • Relevant Microsoft Data related qualification. (A)
Knowledge
  • Familiarity with tools like Jira and Kanban boards. ( A)
Experience
  • Experience of working in the financial services sector. (A)

Can you provide an example of a complex schema you have worked on? What steps do you take to secure a database? Can you share an experience where you implemented security measures and ensured compliance with regulations like GDPR?
Due to the nature of the post we will also be incorporating the Government Digital, Data & Technology (DDaT) Capability Framework to assess candidates that we would expect to be working across the areas and levels highlighted against the role description of a Senior Data Engineer.

If you are successful following the sift stage, you will be invited to an initial interview; this will include the following assessment:
