Job Description

Maintenance III - Roofer - District Operations

This is an 8 hour/day, 12 month position under the Classified Bargaining Unit. The start date is as soon as possible.

DEFINITION

Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, oversees the care and upkeep of roofing systems in the
district; performs a variety of tasks in the care and maintenance of roofs, gutters, flashings, skylights and
related equipment, and performs related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This position is the entry level position for the roofing trade. Requirements include repair of built-up (both
asphalt and modified bitumen), metal, asphalt shingle, wood shingle, and tile roofs. This position is
responsible for the overall care and upkeep of the district roofs and building envelopes.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Performs all duties related to the roofing trade; assumes responsibility for the overall quality of roofing
throughout the district, inspect and repair roofing systems, including the supervision of temporary
employees; advises the Facilities Manager regarding issues concerning roofs and building envelope; and
cares for and maintains assigned equipment and motor vehicles as required.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:
  • Operation of power equipment such as lift truck, scissor and boom lifts, and hand tools.
  • Knowledge of the safety procedures appropriate to the roofing and building craft trades.
  • Knowledge of standard practices of the roofing trade including, but not limited to tools, materials,
    proper methods and procedures used in built-up roofs, shingle roofs and metal roofs.
  • Must be skilled in the care and use of hand and mechanical roofing tools.
  • Ability to work heights over 20 feet.

Ability to:
  • Read, write, and follow oral and written instructions with little supervision;
  • Lay out work and to estimate time, tools, and materials needed;
  • Establish and maintain harmonious relationships with students, fellow employees, and the
    general public;
  • Maintain confidentiality in all phases of work, i.e. records, meetings, etc.
  • Ability to proficiently use appropriate computer applications for your assigned areas of
    responsibility;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, minor electrical and
    plumbing, minor HVAC calls, doors and related hardware, carpentry, and painting;
  • Use and navigate computer technology and other relevant computer software programs as
    required;
  • Routinely lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and over 50 pounds with assistance;
  • Complete all district required trainings.

License:
  • Possession of a valid Oregon Operator's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.

Experience:
  • Minimum of three years experience in the roofing trade.
  • Completion of certified apprenticeship preferred.

Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent as required by Oregon Administrative Rules, Oregon Department of Education.
