The role of a Data Technician Apprentice will be working within the NRTS (National Roads Telecommunications Services) project at Telent and involves supporting the delivery and maintenance of upgrading the telecommunications services across the UK's road network. This opportunity will be working in a wider team of data analysts/technicians where you will be developing your skills, experience and understanding of this project. You will be working in a real-life environment maintaining over half a million assets in our Configuration Management Database (CMDB).

What you'll do:
  • Analysing a wide range of data to define service levels
  • Keeping our Asset / Service database, updated with real time data.
  • Learn how to extracting and analysing information from engineering drawings and schematics
  • Maintain 100% accuracy of configurated data and its relationships to where it appears within the data information.
  • Develop knowledge around CMDB/CMS errors and work to reduce these to ensure 100% alignment.
  • Alignment checks and reconciliation of configuration data with multiple data sources
  • Identify and resolve exceptions through liaison and queries with other team members and departments.
  • Accurate Network Data Mapping/Modelling using engineering drawings.
  • Learn how to generate reports and attend meetings on ad-hoc basis.
  • Review project schedules and plans on weekly and monthly basis and ensure timely deliverables in support of the Service Asset Configuration Management Process (SACM)
  • Reconcile data from the various systems and sources into Remedy CMDB.
  • Support delivery of Projects and Schemes on the National Motorway Network
  • Working towards multiple delivery deadlines whilst keeping up data quality standards

Who you are:

We are looking for an individual who will be able to work as part of the wider team on a critical project for Telent. Working across various teams the ideal candidate will have strong attention to details skill with a logical mind. You will be using MS Excel to assist with reporting, so a strong understanding around Excel would be beneficial. The successful candidate will be given training in all aspects of the role so this will blend in with any passion/interest the candidate has.

Key requirements:
  • 5 GCSEs grade A-C or equivalents in subjects Maths, English, Science, or IT.
  • Be able to pass BPSS and eligible for Security Clearance.
  • Strong attention to detail skills
  • Ability to use initiative
  • Enjoy problem solving
  • Intermediate/advanced Excel skills
  • Interest in Mathematics

Programme Specifics:
  • This apprenticeship is typically 24 months in duration
  • Starting salary of £17,500 which will increase throughout the duration of the programme
  • The qualification you gain will be a Level 3 Data Technician qualification.
  • Our chosen training provider will support you in obtaining your qualification
  • You will work in an Agile model from both our office in Quinton location and remotely from home. From time to time there will be travel to other Telent locations for meetings or training
  • On completion of your apprenticeship, we hope to offer you a full-time position with Telent where you can continue to pursue your career
  • You will be mentored by colleagues, supervisors, managers and tutors throughout the programme
