Job Description

Do you have knowledge and experience within brickwork or construction? Fancy a 4-day working week?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Construction Technician to provide technical and practical support services including: maintaining equipment, tools, and other consumable materials in support of teaching and learning within the curriculum area.

The successful applicant must have:

* Up to date knowledge of the Construction industry and appropriate industry experience

* First Aid qualified, or willing to work towards

* Willing to become a Fire Marshall and undergo the relevant internal training

* Good communication and problem-solving skills

* Good administrative / IT skills

* Ability to work to deadlines in an organised manner

The roles main duties include:

1. Maintaining the workshop areas such that they may be used effectively by staff and students.

2. Preparing materials, tools and equipment for student practical work, training and lecture demonstrations. Please note this may involve lifting and handling.

3. Preparing materials for teaching, marketing and administration purposes.

4. Assisting academic staff in accomplishing learning objectives.

5. Maintaining accurate records and levels of equipment, materials and consumables ordering replenishment stock as necessary.

6. Co-ordinating curriculum area administrative paperwork.

7. Organising and ensure effective operation and security of classrooms and workshop areas, with particular regard to hazardous and/or inflammable materials and their safe storage.

8. Keeping all areas clean, tidy and safe to ensure adequate care of health and safety and take immediate action (e.g. disconnection of power supply) if there is a reason to suppose a safety hazard exists and report the hazard immediately.

9. Offering services and technical advice across College.

This role requires you to engage in regulatory activity in the FE sector. The full definition of regulatory activity is set out in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 as amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012. Regulated activity includes teaching, instructing, caring for or supervising children if the person is unsupervised.

Working Hours: 33 hours per week over 4 days, working one in four Fridays
