The Role:
As a Data Engineering Manager, your role will have a significant impact on our retail industry operations. By leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as Azure, DBT and Snowflake, you will drive innovations that support large-scale analytics, optimize business processes, and deliver actionable insights. Your leadership will be pivotal in shaping our data strategy and ensuring we remain at the forefront of technological advancements in the industry.
Key responsibilities:
- Team Leadership and Development: Lead and mentor a team of data engineers, fostering a collaborative culture and driving excellence in data engineering practices.
- Stakeholder Management: Manage relationships with key stakeholders, understanding their data needs and ensuring that data engineering solutions align with business objectives and deliver value
- Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership in data engineering, driving best practices and innovative solutions to solve complex data challenges and enhance overall data infrastructure
- Data vault Model implementation: Implement flexible Data vault model in Snowflake to support large-scale analytics and business intelligence.
- Project Management: Oversee data engineering projects from inception to completion, including defining scope, managing timelines, and ensuring successful delivery within budget.
- ETL Pipeline Development: Develop, optimize, and maintain ETL pipelines to efficiently extract, transform, and load data from various sources, ensuring high data quality.
- Cloud Infrastructure and Data Integration: Lead the implementation of data solutions on cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, and Snowflake, integrating diverse data sources into unified systems.
- Data Governance and Compliance: Implement data governance practices, including data quality management, metadata management, and adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Performance Optimisation: Monitor and optimize data processing workflows, ensuring efficient data operations and high performance.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with Product Managers, analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver data solutions that align with business objectives and support strategic goals.
- Drive the adoption of best engineering development practices across enterprise products and promote the creation of application and technical design documents that align with Salesforce best practices and seamless integrations.
- Provide thought leadership for Salesforce best practices and design patterns, and proactively find opportunities for improvement across the platform
Stay ahead of Salesforce and other ecosystem technologies and how their features map to business use cases; promote a culture of knowledge. Advise and mentor diverse teams and product groups on resources in technical and functional delivery aspects at a program level, using influence and adaptive communication strategies
Key skills/knowledge/experience:
Advanced Data Engineering Skills: Proficiency in designing and managing ETL processes using DBT, Python, Terraform and Airflow
Expertise in Cloud Platforms: In-depth knowledge of Snowflake and Azure with experience in leveraging these platforms for scalable data solutions.
Data Architecture and Modelling: Strong background in implementing data architectures, including data warehousing solutions and Data vault modelling.
GitHub Skills and Experience: Proficiency in using GitHub for version control, code collaboration and managing data engineering projects
Agile Project Management and Leadership: Proven experience in managing data engineering projects, leading teams, and delivering results on time and within budget.
Data Governance and Compliance: Expertise in implementing data governance frameworks in Alation, including data quality management and compliance with industry regulations.
Strong Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyse complex data requirements and troubleshoot issues to devise innovative solutions.
Effective Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication skills for interacting with stakeholders, presenting technical concepts, and collaborating with cross-functional teams
Desirable:
- Knowledge of Data Visualization Tools: Experience with tools such as MicroStrategy / Power BI
- Terraform: Experience with Terraform and Terragrunt for infrastructure as code
- GenAI: Experience with Generative AI technologies.
