Job Description Job Title: Executive Director Supervision Received: Board President as authorized by AIM Board Position Status : Full Time Job Summary The Executive Director functions as the key administrative position of Aid in Milan. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, program direction and strategic plan of the organization. This position reports directly to the Board of Directors and is the liaison between the Board, staff and community. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing and attention to state and local legal requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Board Governance: Works with Board in order to fulfill the organization mission. Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions. Report and work closely with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising and to increase the overall visibility of the organization. Organization Mission and Strategy: Works with the Board and program staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach. Responsible for strategic planning to ensure that Aid in Milan can successfully fulfill its Mission into the future and communicating progress on goals and action steps to the Board at regular intervals. Responsible for the enhancement of Aid in Milan’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, community and private organizations. Establish and maintain relationships with various organizations throughout local cities and counties and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance the mission. Financial Performance and Viability: Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization. Responsible for the fiscal integrity of Aid in Milan, to include, in conjunction with the Board Treasurer and Accountant, submission of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization. Responsible for fiscal management that operates within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position. Responsible for grant seeking and developing other resources necessary to support the mission (creation of an Annual Development Plan). Responsible for the management of donor database. Organization Leadership: Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are accomplished. Responsible for the hiring, training, coaching and retention of competent, qualified staff. Establishing employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions of the organization. At the direction of the Board, the Executive Director is responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Ability to protect client confidentiality (information and communication). Knowledge and passion for the mission and purpose of Aid in Milan. Knowledge of local Milan area or Washtenaw/Monroe county resources. Strong business acumen; decision making skills; ability to set priorities. Community relationships that can be leveraged to benefit the mission of Aid in Milan. Ability to convey a vision of Aid in Milan’s strategic future to staff, Board, volunteers, donors and funders. Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to nonprofit sector. Skills to collaborate with and motivate board members and other volunteers. Strong written and oral communication skills, including public speaking. Ability to initiate and manage projects with little direction. Ability to adapt to frequently changing circumstances. Education/Experience Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent (Associates with four years of suitable experience) in marketing, business, communications, social work or other relevant degree program for human services or nonprofit leadership. Three or more years’ experience in a human services or related organization, nonprofit experience preferred. Experience developing and managing community programs, public affairs or philanthropic activities. At least two years in a leadership role for a program, nonprofit management experience preferred. Licenses and Certifications This position requires possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license or method of transportation to travel. Travel may be outside of the county for meetings or training. Physical Demands and Work Environment Duties require sufficient mobility to work in a normal office setting and use standard office equipment including a computer, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen and hearing and speech sufficient to communicate in person or over the telephone. Duties require lifting up to 25 pounds for moving supplies used in services.
