Job Description

Marie Curie is the UK’s leading end-of-life charity. We are the largest non-NHS provider of end-of-life care in the UK, the only provider across all 4 nations, delivering community nursing and hospice care across the country, while providing information and support on all aspects of dying, death, and bereavement. Our leading research pushes the boundaries of what we know about good end-of-life, and our campaigns fight for a world where everyone gets to have the best possible quality of life while living with an illness they’re likely to die from.

We believe that everyone affected by dying, death and bereavement deserves the best possible experience reflecting what is most important to them.

Marie Curie, in partnership with University Hospitals Plymouth, is introducing a new service model aimed at enhancing end-of-life care, with a special focus on identifying patients who are approaching the end of their lives.

This innovative service focuses on four key areas:

  • Delivering hands-on care and emotional support to patients and their families in the Emergency Department.
  • Proactively identifying and assisting those nearing the end of life within the acute hospital, ensuring timely transfers to their preferred place of care.
  • Offering specialised care within Mount Gould Community Hospital..
  • Engaging a dedicated team of volunteers to provide companionship and advance care planning.

This is an exciting time to be joining us as a Registered Nurse, where you will play a crucial role in achieving these outcomes and making a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and their families.

In this role, you will work closely with teams and patients’ loved ones to provide comprehensive, person-centred care for those nearing the end of life. This includes conducting holistic assessments, developing advance care and treatment escalation plans, and ensuring high-quality, evidence-based care is implemented, evaluated, and tailored to the needs of both patients and those important to them.

Working in end-of-life care is both challenging and deeply rewarding, offering the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others during their most difficult moments.

Your well-being is as important to us as the care we provide to our patients. We are committed to creating a supportive environment where you can thrive both professionally and personally.

This role will be based at University Hospitals Plymouth and we are hiring across full time, part-time and bank roles.

What we’re looking for:
