Responsibilities

  • Must have litigation experience.
  • Assist Senior Paralegal and in-house attorneys with employment litigation matters; draft and issue litigation hold notices; and communicate with insurers and external counsel as may be necessary.
  • Draft, proofread, and review land record documents, including Assignments of Mortgages, Releases/Reconveyances, and Subordination Agreements.
  • Produce records timely to non-party subpoena and discovery requests on a daily basis with a high level of attention to detail; coordinate witness depositions; and act as custodian of records on behalf of UWM to authenticate business records.
  • Serve as recipient for service of process matters; review, track and escalate legal matters as needed.
  • Track and process legal invoices utilizing Airtable software.
  • Review a variety of other legal documents including residential purchase agreements, leasehold agreements, trust agreements, and other real estate and title documents.
  • Review legal documents received in civil case proceedings, including partition actions, quiet title actions, bankruptcy filings, foreclosure cases, substitutions of trustees, tax and assessment liens, and other civil pleadings; track and manage communications with servicers, internal counsel, MERS, and external counsel to ensure matters are handled from intake to resolution.
  • Research, analyze, and summarize statutory law, investor guideline requirements (Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac/Ginnie Mae), state regulatory agency requirements, judicial decisions and other legal sources of information.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures; reviewing materials quarterly and conducting audits.
  • Assist team with mortgage licensing research and requirements, including filing of annual secretary of state business entity registrations and annual reports.
  • Assist with Legal and Compliance trainings and presentations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or Paralegal certificate and a minimum of three years of previous experience in a legal support environment, either in a corporate or law firm setting.
  • Have experience performing legal research and comprehension of state statutes and civil code procedures.
  • Must have litigation and subpoena processes experience.
  • Have a commitment to continuous business improvement.
  • Be able to collaborate with numerous teams and team members to mitigate risk and ensure legal matters are resolved timely.
  • Have effective planning, organizational and project management skills.
  • Be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously effectively.
  • Have a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Have excellent written and communication skills with an attention to correct grammar and business writing skills.
  • Have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Have critical thinking, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Be self-motivated and able to work well in a team based environment.
