Essential Functions and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operates a front-end loader; loads/fills trucks, stockpiles rock, slag, dirt, and other materials.
- Operates a tracked excavator; loads/fills trucks, excavates/stockpiles rock, slag, dirt and other materials.
- Operates a dozer to spread and compact waste within the landfill tipping areas. Utilizes dozer to apply daily cover to tipping face and landfill side slopes.
- Operates a landfill waste compactor to compact and distribute waste within the landfill tipping areas.
- Operates articulated off-road dump trucks to transport and apply daily cover to landfill tipping face and side slopes.
- Operates commercial vehicles (Non-combination Class B vehicles up to 64,500) such as dump trucks, hook lift trucks, knuckle boom trucks and roll-offs.
- Operates commercial vehicles (combination Class A type vehicles up 80,000 pounds) such as dump trailers, tankers, and transfer trailers.
- Operates commercial lowboy combination vehicle permitted up to 120,000 gross vehicle weight. Transports equipment to work site; Loads, unloads and secures equipment and materials.
- Hauls Equipment and materials on light to medium duty trailers.
- Operates a variety of minor powered machinery and equipment; may participate generally in the laboring work of the crew as workload demands.
- Performs daily safety inspections of assigned equipment prior to and after use.
- Performs routine service and maintenance.
- Operates truck carrying fuel, lubricants and lubricating equipment, performs major field lubrication of light, medium and heavy rolling stock and equipment.
- Follows through directly on routine requests.
- Regular reliable full-time attendance as scheduled.
- The employer may add to or change duties at any time and as determined by the County and its leaders to best ensure that the public is served through the work of the Department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduation from high school or the equivalent.
- A minimum of (2) two years' experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy construction equipment.
- Must be able to comprehend, speak and read the English language.
- Must have and maintain good interpersonal and communication skills to deal with the public.
- A comparable amount of training and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications, with the exception of the FL Class B CDL License.
- Possession of or the ability to obtain a "Landfill Operator Certification" within one year of employment.
- Possession of a valid Florida Class B commercial driver license upon offer of employment with a driving record acceptable to the County Driving Policy and insurance program.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the operation, maintenance adaptabilities, limitations, and safety precautions of the particular equipment to which assignment is made.
- Knowledge of the operating and repair characteristics of medium and heavy automotive and similar equipment.
- Knowledge of the component parts, operating principles and maintenance needs of medium and heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions in the operation of medium and heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of traffic laws and other regulations governing the operation of equipment on construction activities.
- Must have good interpersonal and communication skills to deal with public.
- Ability to obtain necessary information and to complete accurate accident and other reports.
- Ability to operate equipment over rough terrain and to perform manual labor occasionally under adverse weather conditions.
- Skill in the operation of moderately complex construction and transportation equipment.
- Ability to service various types of relatively heavy equipment and to make minor running repairs.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to use special types of equipment
