Job Title: Advanced Apprentice Welding

Location: Portsmouth Naval Base UK

What you will be doing:

Welders will learn to weld a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials including exotic alloys used within the defence industry. A Welder will undertake range of different engineering activities aimed at developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours which meet the apprenticeship standard, whilst gaining valuable experience working on maritime vessels which will culminate in you completing an End Point Assessment.

Specific activities could include:

During the Welding Apprenticeship you will learn how to weld plate and structural components to high standards of quality. This will involve the fabrication, construction or repair of fabricated plate, assemblies and structural components which are often used to fabricate larger components and assemblies. Welders will weld to internationally recognised quality standards using a range of welding process, from Manual Metal Arc (MMA), Metal Inert Gas (MIG), Metal Active Gas (MAG),Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) and Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG).

What Qualification will you get?

By the end of the apprenticeship you will obtain a nationally recognised Apprenticeship Completion Certificate in Welding.

Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 to 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.
