POSITION TITLE: DevOps Technical Lead REPORTS TO: Director of Tech Ops LOCATION: Costa Rica PAY GRADE: Salary DevOps Technical Lead Our mission is to connect people to their passions. Backcountry is seeking a highly motivated and experienced DevOps Technical Lead to join our team. As a DevOps Technical Lead, you will be responsible for the deployment, automation, and maintenance of our ecommerce platform. You will work closely with our security, network, SRE, and development teams to ensure that our website runs smoothly and efficiently, while also ensuring the security and scalability of our infrastructure. This role is challenging – above and beyond the day-to-day responsibilities, you’ll have a big role within a fast-paced team. This position will report into the Director of Tech Ops What you get to do every day: Architect, develop, and maintain the automation and deployment processes for our ecommerce platform. Collaborate with Security, Infrastructure, SRE, and Development teams to implement new platform features and ensure their successful deployment and adoption. Monitor and troubleshoot issues with infrastructure, including performance, security, and scalability. Architect, implement and manage cloud-based services such as AWS, GCP, and Azure. Design and implement disaster recovery and backup solutions. Define and maintain platform standardization, procedures, and documentation. Stay up to date with the latest trends and technologies in DevOps and cloud computing. Lead DevOps Engineers providing mentorship and sharing engineering experience. What you bring to the role: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field. 5 years of experience in DevOps or a related field. Strong experience with cloud-based services (Preferably GCP, AWS, or Azure). Strong experience running Kubernetes as a service (GKE, EKS, AKS). Strong experience with managing Kubernetes clusters using GitOps patterns with ArgoCD, FluxCD, or similar tools. Strong experience with infrastructure automation and deployment tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Docker, Jenkins, GitHub, GitHub Actions, or similar tools. Strong experience with monitoring and troubleshooting tools such as Grafana, Nagios, ELK, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, or similar tools. Desirable experience with Anthos/Istio Service Mesh or similar tools. Desirable experience with Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) projects, Kubernetes Operators, and Multi-Cluster fleets a plus. Strong knowledge of Linux systems administration. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
