The Environment Directorate (ENV) provides relevant and timely information, analysis and advice to support governments in identifying and implementing the environmental policies needed to support a cleaner, more resource-efficient and low carbon green growth path.

ENV Director’s Office supports the Environment Director and the Deputy Directors in their functions. The advisors’ team is responsible for supporting the Directors with advice, briefings, and speeches, as well as the Secretary-General and Deputy Secretary-General in their engagements related to the topics under the purview of the Directorate.

Job Description

Role

Young Associate will work in the Advisors’ team of ENV Director’s Office, under the supervision of the Counsellor, and support the work of the Director and Deputy Directors, as well as contribute to the team’s efforts to effectively reflect ENV work in the Secretary-General and Deputy Secretary-General engagements.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of background notes, speeches and talking points for the Office of the Secretary-General, and the Director and the Deputy Directors of the Environment Directorate. Such requests will be related to climate change, biodiversity, water, pollution, sustainable finance, and the circular economy, among others.
  • Support the team on outreach and communication activities, including preparation of material to promote major outputs and messages at key internal and external events; contribute to efforts to ensure that ENV messages and perspectives are reflected in wider areas of OECD work and are clearly communicated.
  • Contribute with research and analysis to OECD-wide horizontal activities, such as on ocean, gender, and infrastructure.
  • Assist with the organisation of official and informal meetings and events and prepare meeting notes.
  • Assist with the coordination of teams within and outside the Directorate.
  • Stay abreast of international environmental issues and contribute to ad hoc projects and tasks as required.
Qualifications

Ideal Candidate Profile

Academic Background

  • Undergraduate degree in environmental policy, science and management, economics, political science, public policy, or related discipline (graduation date between 1 January 2024 and 1 September 2025). Applications from candidates who already hold or are enrolled in a Master’s, PhD, or equivalent degree will not be considered.
  • Course work in two of the following areas is required: Natural Resources Governance/Management, Environmental Economics, Climate Change Policy and Management, Climate Geopolitics, Biodiversity Management.

Skills

  • A solid understanding of today’s major environmental challenges.
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills.
  • Solid research, writing, and analytical abilities.

Languages

  • Fluency in one of the two OECD official languages (English and French) and a knowledge of, or willingness to learn, the other.

Core Competencies

  • For this role OECD staff are expected to demonstrate behaviours aligned to six core competencies which will be assessed as part of this hiring processes: Vision and Strategy (Level 1); Enable People (Level 1); Ethics and Integrity (Level 1); Collaboration and Horizontality (Level 1); Achieve Results (Level 1); Innovate and Embrace Change (Level 1).
  • There are three possible levels for each competency. The level for each competency is determined according to the specific needs of each job role and its associated grade.
