We are recruiting a Senior Scrutiny Officer. This pivotal role supports the facilitation and delivery of the Scrutiny Committee processes, ensuring that Scrutiny's findings contribute to developing better policy and public services. Committee processes help to ensure that Scrutiny's findings contribute to developing better policy and public services. The post-holder will lead Scrutiny committees, liaising with the appointed Scrutiny chairs and coordinating the delivery of their work programmes.

Responsibilities

Ensure that all members of Scrutiny Committees are provided with comprehensive, high-quality and efficient support and advice to enable them to discharge their roles.

Qualification – Essential

* GCSE Grade (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics.

* Educated to degree level or equivalent or

* Work experience demonstrating graduate-level ability.

* Advanced –Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Social Media.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience Requirements - Criteria-to be Tested at Shortlisting.

* High level of understanding of the role of the governance arrangements, the executive and scrutiny function, non-executive Members, performance review and the changing needs of Members.

* Good knowledge of legislation for local authority decision-making.

* Knowledge of local government policies, strategy, legislative and financial framework.

* Experience in policy and research work, including producing high-quality written material, reports and presentations.

* Experience in working successfully with Members, stakeholders and members of the public and external Agencies

* Experience in project management, research work and relevant techniques.

* Experience in working effectively with colleagues across a wide variety of services.

* Ability to work in a political environment, recognise sensitive issues, and maintain confidentiality, demonstrating high trust and responsibility.

* Ability to face frequently changing demands and deal with demands from elected Members, officers, community members and outside bodies.

* Ability to manage a complex workload with competing priorities and deadlines.

* Ability to analyse, interpret and present (in oral and written form) complex information effectively.

* Ability to understand, interpret and present information from various sources.

* Excellent planning and organisational skills, able to prioritise to meet deadlines and demonstrate responsibility for quality and timescales of own work.
