Job Description

The Choir Director at LUMC is a part-time (5-10 hours/week) position with the following duties: Conduct and rehearse the Chancel Choir (adult volunteer choir of about 17-20 members) that typically rehearses on Wednesday nights at 7:00 pm and sings at the 11:00 am traditional worship service on Sundays. Coordinate solos, small groups, and/or instrumentalists to perform in the anthem spot at the 8:30 am traditional worship service on Sundays. Work with the organist, pastor(s), and possibly others to plan and select hymns for each Sunday. Plan for and prepare the Chancel choir for a yearly Christmas cantata plus extra services, including but not limited to the Moravian Love Feast, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday. Hire extra musicians for special services (within budget), including but not limited to the cantata and Easter Sunday. The Choir Director is expected to be: Knowledgeable about the liturgical seasons of the church year and select music relevant to those seasons and the lectionary regarding scriptures and special Sundays. Motivational and positive to attract and retain volunteer choir members. Proficient with singing, bells, organ, and piano. Open to combined (traditional and contemporary) occasional worship service. An active member of a church with a strong and active relationship with Jesus Christ and a passion for ministering through music. Salary is commensurate with experience.
