Job Description

Increasing the wellbeing of patients and carers

OUR CHALLENGE

We offer our community and ward based patients, and their carers, a variety of treatments provided by our complementary therapy volunteers. We aim to empower all to enjoy the best possible quality of life available to them, helping to maintain their independence, mobility and comfort level as far as possible. We welcome volunteers with experience in Aromatherapy, Massage, Reflexology, Reiki, Acupuncture and Hypnotherapy but also therapists from other disciplines so that we can offer a diverse range of treatments. We want to extend protected therapy time on our IPU and Wellbeing Centre.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

As a Complementary Therapist Volunteer, you will be fully supported by the Complementary Therapy Coordinator and the Wellbeing Centre nursing team. You will receive a handover from the team prior to each session, plus a debrief afterwards to talk through the session and raise any concerns.

Typical activities will include:

  • Deliver therapy sessions in the Hospice to patients

  • Deliver therapy sessions to carers

  • Ensure that the therapy treatment rooms are maintained to a high standard

As part of this role, we will provide you with a tunic and trousers (which is laundered at the Hospice) plus a volunteer badge.

IMPACT YOU WILL MAKE

By sharing your expertise as a Complementary Therapist Volunteer, you can have a hugely positive impact on the quality of life for those living with life limiting illness, and for the people caring for them.
