The Role – Head of Technical Sales - UK

We have a unique opportunity for a Head of Technical Sales to join a team of innovative, driven individuals passionate about delivering low-carbon energy systems worldwide and achieving Net Zero.

We are seeking a Head of Technical Sales to lead a team of Technical Sales Engineers and work closely with our Global Sales team, adding commercially aware technical expertise to customer engagements. This role involves collaboration with sales, product, and power systems teams, with a primary focus on developing global markets and supporting our sales efforts to meet revenue targets.

In this role, you will build trusted customer relationships through a flexible, technically sound approach. You will work to understand customer challenges, their business cases, and how our services deliver substantial value. A strong "sales mindset" is essential to align with sales objectives, and you will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams—including operations, marketing, finance, engineering, and product management—to clearly articulate customer needs and identify commercial revenue opportunities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the sales team through the sales process, attending customer meetings to showcase the unique technical and engineering advantages of our products. Assist in technically and commercially qualifying new customer opportunities and identifying upsell potential with existing customers.
  • Lead collaboration with the sales team to develop strategies that meet and exceed sales targets, while effectively differentiating our product portfolio and demonstrating competitive technical advantages.
  • Oversee the preparation and delivery of technical presentations and demonstrations for customers.
  • Direct market research and analysis to identify potential customers and understand their needs, capturing valuable competitor insights. Translate this information into clear product requirements for Product Management.
  • Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with existing and prospective customers.
  • Lead early-stage identification of customer pain points, demonstrating how our products can address these issues through validated business cases.
  • Address customer technical objections, relaying feedback to marketing, sales, and product teams to support continuous improvement.
  • Guide the Sales and Product teams on various technical solutions to customer challenges, outlining commercial implications and trade-offs to determine optimal solutions.
  • Drive a customer-focused approach, ensuring commitments are met and expectations are professionally managed.
  • Maintain and expand industry, market, and regulatory knowledge to inform internal stakeholders and shape product roadmaps.
  • Conduct impactful service demonstrations in customer meetings, virtual webinars, and industry events, and support customers in software trials.
  • Represent our technology at industry events and trade shows.
  • Contribute to bid activities by responding to technical requirements and drafting technical content for proposals.
  • Establish customer evaluation criteria to effectively showcase our product’s unique selling points.
  • Actively support and contribute to a high-performance culture.
  • Manage team communication between Sales, Product, and Power Systems to relay customer requirements and identify viable new product opportunities.
  • Regular global travel will be required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical or Power Systems Engineering with 7+ years of industry experience.
  • Proven experience in team leadership, driving engagement and success.
  • Extensive knowledge of power system challenges and developments driven by the transition to net zero, including integration of inverter-based renewables (e.g., oscillations, low system strength, low inertia).
  • Strong proficiency in power system modelling and dynamic simulations (e.g., DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, PSS/e).
  • Exceptional ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to both peers and customers, verbally and in writing.
  • Skilled at tailoring impactful messaging for diverse organisational roles and levels.
  • Strong understanding of sales governance, budgeting, and commercial negotiations.
  • Knowledge of smart grid technologies in DSO or TSO environments, including DERMS, ADMS, WAMS, and EMS.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with engaging presentation and written communication abilities.
  • Strategic problem-solver with creativity and a customer-centric mindset.
  • Confidence in communicating with all organisational levels, including Director, VP, and CEO.
  • Ability to leverage technical skills to provide customer-focused solutions in a global sales environment.
  • Highly performance- and process-oriented, with strong initiative, confidence, and energy.
  • Proficient in MS Office and CRM software (e.g., Salesforce).
  • A professional and positive approach, thriving in a fast-paced environment.

BENEFITS

We believe that a well-rewarded workforce with a compelling mission drives engagement and productivity. As a dynamic organisation, we offer a competitive benefits package, including:
