Job Description

Position OVERVIEW

The Assistant Director of Development, Monthly and Annual Giving is a vital role reporting to the Vice President of Development and oversees all aspects of our clients monthly and annual giving program including but not limited to direct mail appeals and engagement and cultivation strategies that help build the pipeline for major and principal gifts. They will also be responsible for stewarding monthly and annual giving donors along with staffing the Development hotline for enquiries regarding gifts and gift processing. This position will manage a portfolio of donors (~175) who have given between $1-$25K and will have a goal of renewals on lapsed gifts as well as retention for a higher level giving through annual giving appeals.

Essential Functions include but are not limited to:

  • Under the supervision of the VP, Development, oversee our clients monthly and annual giving programs and initiatives including stewardship activities aligned with best practices in the non-profit healthcare sector.
  • Work closely with the Department lead and the Development team to strategically identify, cultivate and strengthen relationships across all our clients constituencies in the effort to build a robust and engaged philanthropic community.
  • Conduct research on potential donors and prospects and if appropriate for a higher-level engagement, flag to team lead for enhanced moves management.
  • Effectively utilize CRM systems to maintain records, present briefs and deliver progress reports.
  • Analyze data and metrics (gift size, length of giving and affinity) to make data driven decisions aimed at increasing engagement, gift sizes and donor numbers and participation.
  • Work closely with Departmental lead and volunteer leadership, including Support Groups, to achieve departmental and organizational goals.
  • Act as a liaison with our clients Support Group team and develop opportunities to collaborate and strengthen relationships and thus attract new donors to the our clients while strengthening and expanding current giving of existing donors and building a robust pipeline for major and principal gifts.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications on monthly and annual giving appeals and craft language and innovative strategies (ex: timing and signatories) to maximize giving potential from our clients known philanthropic community and find ways to reach new donors and prospects.
  • Actively participate in fundraising activities, major events and campaigns as part of the overall Development team; including planning, researching donors, soliciting, tracking progress, recognition strategies and stewardship of monthly and annual giving donors.
  • Attend signature our clients community outreach and educational events as well as partner and donor events as needed.
  • Utilize project management tools to facilitate communication within the team, across the organization, and with external collaborators.
  • Responsible for donor file management ensuring accuracy and completeness of records.
  • Stay current with our clients activities and initiatives under each of the 4 pillars and be a well-informed representative of the our clients at external facing engagements.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the VP, Development.

Required Skills

· Seasoned fundraiser with sound knowledge of practices and philosophy of charitable giving and donor/prospect relationship management.

· Demonstrated ability to work with a multidisciplinary fundraising team and prioritize workload to meet milestones and objectives.

· Strong relationship management skills to build and maintain partnerships with donors, sponsors, and partners.

· Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills; strong presentation skills and ability to communicate effectively with donors and a variety of stakeholders.

  • Ability to think strategically and creatively, as well as innovate, implement and follow through.
  • Ability to take responsibility, work well as a team member, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Dependable, organized and detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize assignments and perform multiple tasks simultaneously while adhering to deadlines.
  • Strong research skills to identify potential funding sources and stay informed about industry trends.
  • Proficient utilizing fundraising CRM’s such as Salesforce for donor management.
  • Highly proficient utilizing Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Experience managing files in SharePoint a plus.
  • Ability to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Must be able to pass a background check

EDUCATION/ Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required with 3-5 years of development experience
  • At least one (1) year of experience focused on cultivation and stewardship of major gifts

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time while working on a personal computer or participating in meetings and events.
  • Perform continuous operation of a computer and other office productivity items, such as a calculator or copier.
  • Occasionally move about inside an office or event building.
  • Ability to occasionally move items weighing up to 20lbs, bending and reaching throughout the day as needed.
