Job Description

We are seeking a Sr. Employee Relations Professional to join our team and play a critical role in maintaining a positive work environment and advising Company management on a variety of situations. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Advising Company management about various situations from performance coaching to maintaining a positive work environment.
Examples include: employee engagement, issues related to employment regulations, evaluation and advising for potential disciplinary actions, interdepartmental conflict, investigate concerns of workplace violence or harassment, discrimination allegations and potential litigation.
  • Advising associates with environmental or management concerns, including investigating the issue, facilitating resolution and follow-up.
  • Identifying gaps in management's understanding and/or application of successful staff management; recommending and implementing effective actions (e.g., training, communication, and policy review).
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with key constituencies and partners, including management and leadership, occupational health, corporate compliance, law, corporate communications, other human resources disciplines and external regulators.
  • In partnership with Corporate Communications, creating Company-wide communications that reflect the Company culture and values.
  • Managing assigned program areas to ensure a positive and productive work environment. Examples include background check program, business continuity program, internal intranet leadership resources, life balance, unemployment claims, employee policies, and associates engagement initiatives, training.
  • Contributing to corporate reorganizations/position reductions.

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of employee relations experience and a demonstrated track record of success in handling:
  • Employee relations issues,
  • Interpreting employment laws,
  • Writing and implementing HR policies managing HR projects.

Key skills for this role:
  • Knowledge of employment laws (EEO, ADA, FLSA, FMLA, FCRA)
  • Knowledge of Human Resources best practices
  • The ability to interpret, analyze, and synthesize data and information
  • Ability to work independently and drive results
  • Providing advice and counsel to employees and managers
  • Professional written and oral presentation skills
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to cultivate and build strong relationships
  • Excellent project management, organization and planning skills

Preferred skills for this job:
  • Successful track record in a bachelor's degree program or comparable experience
  • Experience in financial services in a human resources role
  • Experience advising on employee relations issues with exempt/senior roles

Securian Financial believes in hybrid work as an integral part of our culture. Associates get the benefit of working both virtually and in our offices. If you're in a commutable distance (90 minutes) you'll join us 2-3 days each week in our offices to collaborate and build relationships. Our policy allows flexibility for the reality of business and personal schedules. When working in our offices at least two days per week isn't feasible (vacations, illness, travel, etc.), an eight day per month standard is an option.

Physical Job Requirements:
  • Ability to utilize the keyboard, computer and/or mouse for up to 8 hours per day
  • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week
  • Ability to utilize the phone and/or virtual meeting platform for 1-4 hours per day

The estimated base pay range for this job is:

$69,500.00 - $129,000.00

Pay may vary depending on job-related factors and individual experience, skills, knowledge, etc. More information on base pay and incentive pay (if applicable) can be discussed with a with a member of the Securian Financial Talent Acquisition team.
