Job Description

Job Purpose: As the Production Manager, you will lead a team of staff, ensuring the seamless execution of daily operations to deliver high-quality products that meet customer requirements. This position reports to the CEO and is based at our Cape Town Warehouse in Epping. Key Accountabilities: 1. Production Manage production process to achieve targets most efficiently and cost-effectively. This includes optimizing production processes, reducing waste, and minimizing downtime. Set goals, objectives, and standards of measurement for the factory. Meet delivery dates (OTIF) and communicate with planning. 2. Product Design and Development Oversee the design team through the new product development process, ensuring compatibility with production methods and product quality and durability. Drive timelines and follow up on outsourced components. Ensure that prototypes are delivered to requested specifications. Ensure that models, shop drawings, bill of materials and CNC programs are updated and reflect the finished product. Check and approve product costing. 3. Quality Control Ensuring that the products manufactured meet the required quality standards. Monitor and maintain quality control measures throughout the production process. Address and resolve any quality issues promptly. 4. Plant Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the factory. This includes managing inventory, scheduling maintenance and repairs, and ensuring that all equipment is functioning optimally. Investigate, evaluate, and recommend capex requirements for cost benefit and suitability. 5. Financial In collaboration with CEO, CFO and Financial Accountant set and manage budgets, financial goals, and monitor financial performance. This includes analysing production costs, identifying areas for cost savings, and making strategic financial decisions to improve overall profitability. 6. Staff Management Managing and leading the team of employees in the factory. Ensure that staff is trained, motivated, and working efficiently. Provide regular feedback and coaching to ensure teams are working effectively. Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork and high performance. 7. Health and Safety Responsible for implementing and maintaining safety protocols and procedures, conducting safety audits, and ensuring compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations. 8. General Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including senior management, customers, suppliers, other departments, Bargaining Council and Trade Union. Report on the factory's progress, achievements, challenges, and opportunities. Qualifications & Experience Requirements: Grade 12 Relevant Diploma/ Degree in Engineering or Production/Operations Management would be advantageous Minimum of 10 years experience in a manufacturing environment of which a minimum of 5 years experience in a management role Functional Requirements: Sound experience understanding the production process and function and applying continuous improvement processes. Unwavering focus on delivering results and problem-solving. Strong analytical and decision-making skills. Strong people management and leadership skills. Ability to prioritise and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations. Working Conditions: This is a full-time position which entails a minimum of 40 hours per week. The Production Manager works in a fast-paced environment that requires considerable multitasking. Shift work may be necessary due to operational requirements. Own transport & valid drivers license.
