Head of Bid Management - Training & Simulation (TTS UK)

Location: Crawley (Hybrid working - 3 days a week). Some travel required to other Thales sites and customers

The Role:

We are seeking a forward-thinking and strategic senior Bid specialist to join our Training and Simulation (TTS) Thales UK team as Head of Bid Management. Joining our leadership team, you will take on a pivotal role to the roadmap and future success of the business, leading and driving the strategic direction of our bid function. You will work closely with the Head of Sales, ensuring the bid team are closely aligned in the planning and coordination of innovative, compelling and commercially robust proposals to existing or prospective clients.

You will be responsible for the development and coaching of a small team; prior people management experience or leadership capability with an eagerness to develop others is key. This role is pivotal to securing high value contracts and expanding our market presence.

Key Responsibilities:

Undertaking activities that ensure the proactive management of the TTS bid portfolio:
  • Maintain the resource demand forecast and contribute to an effective S&OP process
  • Support the Head of Sales and other Sales Managers/Key Account Managers in maintaining accurate data for opportunities in GCRM/T360
  • Maintaining the Domain Bid Pipeline and presenting a consolidated bid picture to the domain's leadership team.
  • Ensuring appropriate focus on CASH management and achieving a positive net cash profile associated with the Initial Project baseline
  • Promoting and enabling left-shifting E.g. solutions options and selection, Make/Team/Buy decisions, Project execution strategies
  • Advocating tailoring of Bid Governance as appropriate, including Bid Stage Gates, Bid Reviews (BKO, BBR, ER, SR, RR, HOR) and Project Characterisation
  • Embedding a strong sense of delivery accountability and a proactive risk and opportunity management culture (for both 'winability' and 'deliverability') at all levels of the Bid team
  • Assist in nurturing an innovative and flexible business winning community within the domain

About you:

We are looking for:
  • A proven track record of delivering successful bids, operating within a complex, multi-disciplinary and multi-site organisation
  • Can demonstrate the ability to construction solutions that meet the markets needs both commercially and technically
  • Ability to directly successfully lead a bid team and to drive solutions to successful conclusion
  • Strong negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills, able to effectively work with customers, partners, suppliers and other parts of the business
  • Able to successfully manage change
  • Demonstrate an ability to develop others
  • Ability to adapt personal style of management and communication to achieve the desired results from interactions with team members and stakeholders
  • Strong business and commercial acumen

Security requirements:

Due to the nature of the work that we do at Thales, many of our roles are subject to security restrictions. This role requires you to be a UK National and achieve Security Clearance (SC) without any caveats. It would be advantageous if currently held, however, if not currently held, it is a requirement that the successful applicant undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance prior to commencing employment. If approved by the MOD, a dual national from a Non-ITAR country may be considered. Please visit the UKSV website for further guidance.

To be eligible for full SC, you generally need to have resided in the UK for the last 5 years. In some circumstances, a minimum of 3 years' residence in the UK over the last 5 years may be accepted, with additional overseas checks.
