Housing Officer who has a good understanding of housing legislation and local authority processes and either possess or is prepared to work towards the CIH Level 2 Certificate in Housing Practice is required for a well-established organisation based inEastbourne,East Sussex.

SALARY: £29,000 per annum + Benefits
JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent
WORKING HOURS: Working 12 hour days, 4 on 4 off, 8 am to 8pm
LOCATION: Due to the sensitive nature of the role the company will discuss the location of the site in more detail during the interview process
JOB OVERVIEW
We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Housing Officer who has a good understanding of housing legislation and local authority processes and either possess or is prepared to work towards the CIH Level 2 Certificate in Housing Practice.
Working as the Housing Officer you will be able to lead on the delivery of Housing Advice and Support for survivors of Domestic Abuse, Substance Misuse, Offending Behaviour, Health Problems (physical and mental) and Homelessness.
As the Housing Officer you will provide informed support to enable survivors to safely maintain their current accommodation, access welfare benefits, legal advice alternative housing, and support services.

DUTIES
Your duties as a Housing Officer will include:
- Undertake assessments of need and risk using a variety of tools
- Receive and translate partner agency assessments and data to our own triage and assessment
- Support delivery group-work and one-to-one sessions to survivor residents
- Work as part of a team, including volunteers, engaging with survivors, to support safe re-integration into the community
- Lead on the delivery of Housing Advice and Support for survivors in the accommodation and in the community
- Be an active participant in multi-agency meetings and undertake regular consultations with housing and other partnership colleagues
- Provide informed support to enable survivors to safely maintain their current accommodation, access welfare benefits, legal advice alternative housing, and support services
- Train colleagues, volunteers and partner agency staff in housing related support and advice to maximise the opportunities to create positive housing outcomes
- Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with colleagues, survivors, and partnership staff from other agencies
- Assist with the induction of new residents
- Engage with survivors in a pro-social manner, praising pro social behaviours and attitudes and sensitively challenging anti-social, aggressive or abusive behaviours
- Report any significant changes and share key information relating to risk of harm/and or reoffending or any non-compliance
- Undertake regular inspections of the building
- Assist with room inspections
- Follow prescribed medication procedures
- Provide First Aid if a resident is injured or self-harms
- Participate in handover briefings
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Essential

- Good numeracy and literacy skills
- Good understanding of housing legislation and local authority processes
- Possess or be prepared to work towards the CIH Level 2 Certificate in Housing Practice
- Experience of working with a diverse range of people who have experienced a range of social/personal difficulties including substance misuse, mental health challenging and housing issues
- Good understanding of domestic abuse
- Experience of working with Microsoft Word, Outlook and basic Excel
- An understanding of safeguarding
- Ability to work alone, without guidance
- Ability to work on a shift which covers days and weekends
Desirable
- Previous experience of working within a residential setting
- Previous experience of working with women
- Experience of working with groups or individuals in order to support, motivate and change behaviour
- An understanding of factors relating to multiple, compound needs
- Being empathic, with the ability to use tact and discretion when dealing with confidential and sensitive issues
This role is subject to an enhanced check level 2 which includes an Enhanced DBS check. All required checks will be undertaken as part of the pre employment process for any successful candidate.
